When you think of Kim Cattrall, the first thing that probably comes to mind is her unforgettable role as Samantha Jones in Sex and the City. But guess what? Kim’s latest character might just be the one she relates to most deeply. At 63, she’s stepping into the shoes of Margaret Monreaux, a billionaire Christian-TV host in Fox’s Filthy Rich. This role has struck a chord with Kim in ways she never expected.
Exploring Life’s Big Questions Through Acting
In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Kim opened up about why this character resonates with her on such a personal level. “Margaret and I are about the same age, and as we grow older, we start to face some of life’s toughest questions,” she said. “You know, like, ‘What’s next?’ or ‘How much time do I have left?’” Kim explained that these are the kinds of questions she loves to explore through her work. “I think if I’m asking them, chances are other people are too. And that’s what makes this role so powerful—it feels real.”
Kim went on to describe how playing Margaret allows her to delve into the complexities of faith and vulnerability. “There’s no judgment here; it’s all about acceptance. That’s something I can get behind,” she added. “Margaret has so many layers—she’s a public figure, a wife, a confident woman, and someone who turns to prayer for guidance. As someone who doesn’t come from a strong religious background, exploring these aspects of her character has been eye-opening for me.”

The Intersection of Faith and Vulnerability
One of the most compelling aspects of Kim’s portrayal of Margaret is the way she tackles the character’s spiritual side. “Prayer is such a private moment for anyone, no matter their beliefs,” Kim shared. “It’s a time when you’re completely vulnerable, and that’s something I wanted to capture authentically. It’s not just about playing a role—it’s about understanding what drives someone to seek faith and comfort in prayer.”
But taking on this role wasn’t just about acting for Kim. It was also a journey of self-discovery. “As I’ve gotten older, I’ve started questioning things more deeply,” she admitted. “Why are we here? How can I find peace amidst all the chaos in the world? Playing Margaret has helped me explore those questions in ways I never anticipated.”

Remembering Loved Ones and Finding Strength
Kim’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges. She’s experienced loss in recent years, including the passing of her brother Christopher. On January 2, she paid tribute to him on Instagram with a heartfelt message: “Happy Birthday to my little brother, Christopher aka ‘Topher’ or ‘Toe.’ A sweet & gentle soul. Miss you today and every day. RIPx.”
Loss has been a profound teacher for Kim. “It’s taught me so much,” she reflected during a press event at Fox’s TCA day. “I’ve lost two family members, and it’s made me realize how important it is to cherish the people and moments we have. I’m not there yet, but I’m learning to fully appreciate everything—my family, my friends, even saying goodbye to someone I won’t see for a while. It’s all part of life, and I want to embrace it fully.”
