On Thursday, April 18, Prince William stepped back into his royal duties and shared his first public words about Princess Kate Middleton's ongoing battle with cancer. This heartfelt moment gives fans a glimpse into the strength and resilience of the royal couple as they navigate this challenging period.
Prince William's Charitable Appearance
At the age of 41, Prince William made a visit to the Surplus to Supper charity in Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey, England. During this visit, a volunteer handed him thoughtful cards addressed to both his wife, Kate, who is 42, and King Charles III. Just a few months ago, on February 5, King Charles III revealed his own cancer diagnosis, making this an emotional time for the royal family.
In a video shared on X by journalist Lizzie Robinson of ITN, we see Prince William graciously accepting the cards. He said, “Oh, some cards, you’re very kind. Thank you very much.” When the volunteer urged him to take care of his wife, he simply and firmly replied, “I will.”

Princess Kate's Cancer Diagnosis
Princess Kate first announced her cancer diagnosis to the world on March 22 after undergoing abdominal surgery. In a video message, she explained, “The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”
This revelation was met with an outpouring of support from fans and well-wishers around the globe. The Princess of Wales also shared how she communicated this difficult news to her three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. She said, “It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK.”
She continued, “As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal—in my mind, body, and spirit.” This heartfelt message underscores the resilience and strength of the Middleton family as they face this challenge together.

Family Matters
During the Easter break, when the kids were off from school, Kate decided to publicly disclose her health status. This decision was made after much thought and discussion with William. They both agreed it was the right moment to share the news, but only after informing their children first and giving them time to process it.
According to a royal insider speaking with Closer, “That’s why she didn’t want to share the news publicly. Her main concern was that they would hear about her illness from other children or overhear adults discussing it.”
Stronger Together
As both Kate and Charles, who is 75, undergo cancer treatments, their bond has grown even stronger. An insider shared with Closer, “Kate is the daughter that Charles never had, and they have never been closer than they are right now. Going through this cancer journey together has brought them together in a way that they never expected, but is much appreciated by both of them.”
