Hey there! Let me tell you something exciting. Prince George’s 7th birthday is just around the corner in July, and it looks like his granddad, Prince Charles, has some pretty cool ideas brewing for how they can celebrate together. Imagine the joy on George’s face as he gets to share special moments with his grandpa!
Prince Charles Reflects on His Own Childhood Adventures
Prince Charles, now 71, reminisced about his own childhood experiences during a heartfelt chat with Alan Titchmarsh on Classic FM. He mentioned how his grandmother used to play music around the house, which sparked his early interest in the arts. "My grandmother would often play quite a bit of music," Charles fondly recalled. "So, I would hear something there." But it wasn't until he was taken by his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother), to Covent Garden at the tender age of 7 that things really clicked for him. "It must have been in 1956 when I saw the Bolshoi Ballet perform. Their first visit to the United Kingdom—it was an incredible occasion," Charles shared. You could tell how much this moment meant to him.

Passing the Torch: Inspiring the Next Generation
That experience left such a lasting impression on Prince Charles that he feels it’s crucial to pass this love of the arts onto his own grandchildren. “I was completely inspired by it,” he explained. “Which is why it’s so important, I think, for grandparents or other relations to take children at about the age of 7 to experience some form of the arts in performance.” What a wonderful tradition he’s hoping to continue with Prince George!

Now, picture this: Prince George getting to see a ballet performance with his granddad. It’s exactly the kind of thing that would light up his world. Before the pandemic hit, George was already showing a keen interest in the arts himself by taking ballet classes at St. Thomas’s Battersea. The school emphasizes that these lessons help students develop "physical skills, stamina, creativity, expression, and musicality." So not only is he having fun, but he’s also growing in so many ways.
Family Legacy: Following in Mom and Dad’s Footsteps
Prince William has also been a big supporter of the arts within the family. Back in October 2019, he told a dancer about his late mother, Princess Diana, and her love for dancing. “My mother always used to dance, she loved dancing,” William said. “If it’s something you love, you do what you love. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Keep at it.” It’s clear that William wants George to feel empowered to pursue his passions, no matter what they are.
Thanks to his dad’s encouragement, Prince George hasn’t shied away from exploring his interests. In addition to ballet, the 6-year-old enjoys photography, much like his mom, Kate Middleton. And when he’s hanging out with his siblings, you’ll often find him strumming a guitar and jamming out. Now, I don’t know about you, but I can totally imagine Kate covering her ears with a laugh during one of George’s impromptu concerts. As an insider revealed to Closer Weekly in March, "There are times when Kate covers her ears to block out the noise. But she laughs about it." Sounds like a house full of love and laughter, doesn’t it?
