Former NFL star Aaron Hernandez, who tragically passed away in 2017, is back in the spotlight as his ex-jailhouse lover, Kyle Kennedy, reveals explosive new details about Hernandez's alleged involvement in a brutal double murder case. Kennedy claims Hernandez admitted to the murders and even joked about them during their time together behind bars. This shocking revelation is set to air in an upcoming REELZ special, Aaron Hernandez: Jailhouse Lover Tells All.
The Revelations of Kyle Kennedy
In a sneak peek of the REELZ special, Kyle Kennedy, who formed an intimate bond with Hernandez while they were both incarcerated at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Massachusetts, claims that Hernandez confessed to him about the murders of Daniel Jorge Correia de Abreu and Safiro Teixeira Furtado. Kennedy says Hernandez not only admitted to the crime but also found humor in it. "He did tell me he did that," Kennedy states bluntly, adding that Hernandez "thought it was funny." This chilling confession contradicts Hernandez's previous acquittal in the case, leaving viewers to wonder about the truth behind these tragic events.
A Night That Changed Everything
The alleged murders took place on July 16, 2012, in Boston's Cure Lounge. According to Kennedy's account, Hernandez was at the club with a friend when an altercation broke out between Hernandez and one of the victims, Daniel Jorge Correia de Abreu. After the confrontation, de Abreu and Safiro Teixeira Furtado left the club, unaware that they were being followed. Tragically, their car was ambushed at a red light, leading to a drive-by shooting that claimed both their lives. The details surrounding this incident are harrowing and have left many questioning the justice system's verdict.

Kennedy went on to provide more details about Hernandez's alleged confession. He recounted that Hernandez had felt disrespected by de Abreu during the club altercation, leading to a vengeful plan. "They waited down the street in a parking garage for like three or four hours," Kennedy revealed. "He knew what kind of car they were in. He already told me he'd seen 'em go by, pulled up next to them. He only meant to kill the one kid in the passenger seat. He said he shot him in his head, he saw his brains blow all over his friend." These graphic details paint a disturbing picture of Hernandez's alleged mindset and actions that fateful night.
Behind Bars: The Intimate Bond Between Hernandez and Kennedy
While incarcerated, Hernandez and Kennedy formed an intimate bond, which allowed Kennedy to gain insight into Hernandez's thoughts and feelings about his legal troubles. Kennedy described Hernandez as someone who appeared confident on the surface but was deeply troubled underneath. "You know, you’d never be able to tell by looking at him, but he was obviously worried," Kennedy shared. "He was concerned about what the outcome was because his lawyers would tell him, 'If you beat these two cases, we’re gonna flip your other case, you’re gonna go home.' So that’s what was set in his head. He kept telling me, you know, 'If we can speak this into existence, we could make this happen.' So he had himself convinced he was going to beat those two murders." This reveals Hernandez's desperation and belief in his ability to manipulate the legal system.

Hernandez's life took a tragic turn when he was found dead in his jail cell on April 19, 2017. At the time, he was serving a life sentence after being convicted of the first-degree murder of Odin Lloyd in 2013. Hernandez had also been on trial for the murders of de Abreu and Furtado, for which he was indicted in 2014. Although he was acquitted of these charges just four days before his death, his legacy remains marred by the allegations and controversies surrounding his life and career.
Aaron Hernandez: Jailhouse Lover Tells All premieres on REELZ Sunday, July 5, at 8 p.m. ET. Tune in for an in-depth look into the life and confessions of one of the NFL's most infamous figures.
