Talking to Jane Seymour feels like catching up with a close, cherished friend—someone who’s not only brilliant but also incredibly down-to-earth. Over the course of her five-decade career, Jane has left an indelible mark on the entertainment world, from her Broadway debut in the 1980 production of Amadeus, to her unforgettable role as Bond girl in Live and Let Die, and her iconic portrayal of Dr. Quinn in the beloved TV series Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. But if you ask her what truly makes her happiest, it’s all about her family.
“I promised myself I wouldn’t turn into one of those people who can’t stop talking about their grandchildren,” Jane, now 69, admits to Closer. “But the truth is, once that first grandchild comes along, you’re hooked. It’s like magic. Even more magical, if you can believe it, than having your own kids!”
The divorced star, who is also a proud mom to five children—a stepdaughter and four biological kids: Katherine, 39, Sean, 35, and twins John and Kristopher, 25—remains as busy as ever. Her latest film, The War With Grandpa, is now available on streaming platforms, and she’s set to appear in the upcoming Ruby’s Choice, where she plays a character living with dementia. “The story explores how the entire family is affected by her moving in with them,” Jane explains. “But guess what? She ends up completely transforming their lives for the better. It’s such an uplifting tale.”

How Are You Keeping Busy These Days, Jane?
Even with the challenges of the pandemic, I’ve stayed active. I was actually in Australia when everything first shut down. Now that I’m back home, I’m being super cautious—wearing a mask, following the rules, and staying safe. But life goes on, right? You’ve got to keep moving forward!
Are You Still Able to Spend Time with Your Grandchildren?
Absolutely! They’re part of our little bubble here in Malibu. Whether they’re at their mom and dad’s house or visiting us, we make sure to spend quality time together. Every Friday, they have school here at our place. We also love gardening and creating art projects together. It’s such a joyful way to bond.
What Do You Love Most About Being a Grandmother?
Watching my daughters grow into amazing mothers and trusting me with these precious little ones is an incredible gift. It keeps me active and engaged, and it’s so fulfilling to share stories about their moms when they were little. There’s something truly magical about being able to pass down memories and traditions. It’s like keeping the family legacy alive.
Have Your Grandkids Seen Episodes of Dr. Quinn?
I’ve only recently started letting them watch it. There are definitely parts I need to explain because it’s quite mature in some scenes. But they absolutely adore it. It’s funny how much they enjoy seeing their "Oma" on screen!
What Do They Think When They See You on TV?
They’re full of questions, especially about the stunts. For example, they’ll ask, “How did you jump off that cliff?” I explain how we worked with stunt doubles and clever camera angles. They find it all so fascinating. It’s great to see them so curious and interested in the behind-the-scenes world of filmmaking.

Do You Ever Find Yourself Offering Parenting Advice to Your Daughters?
Not really. Even when I think they might be making a mistake, I keep my mouth shut and let them figure it out on their own. It’s important not to say, “I told you so.” Instead, I might gently suggest, “Oh, really? We did it differently. Maybe you could try that approach.” [Laughs] It’s all about finding the right balance and not overstepping!
How Do You Maintain That Glowing Skin of Yours?
I’m pretty consistent with my skincare routine. I cleanse thoroughly, both morning and night, and I love using a gentle scrub or facial brush to exfoliate. After that, I apply a serum, followed by a rich face cream, and always finish with SPF to protect from the sun. Hydration is key!
Do You Wear Makeup When You’re Not Working?
Yes, I do. As an artist, I enjoy experimenting with colors and techniques. I focus on enhancing my eyes because they’re my favorite feature. For my lips, I prefer a natural look. I’m also a huge fan of individual lashes—they really make a difference!
What’s Your Diet Like?
I don’t follow any strict diets, but I try to eat healthily. Lately, I’ve been leaning toward the Mediterranean diet, which includes plenty of fresh veggies, fruits, and lean proteins like fish or chicken. My mornings start with a refreshing green juice made from kale, celery, green apple, and ginger root straight from the garden. I avoid fried foods and sugar whenever possible, but I do indulge in dark chocolate from time to time!
What Keeps You Looking and Feeling So Young?
Playing with my grandchildren definitely helps! They have endless energy, and spending time with them keeps me lively and engaged. I also practice meditation regularly—it’s a great way to stay centered and peaceful.
What’s the Achievement You’re Most Proud Of in Your Career?
Receiving the OBE [Most Excellent Order of the British Empire] was truly a highlight. It was such an incredible honor and a moment I’ll cherish forever.
