One of the things that brings Jane Seymour the most joy is passing on her family history to her three grandchildren through the photographs and keepsakes she's inherited. "There's something truly magical about being able to show them these pieces of our past," Jane tells Closer magazine, which is available on newsstands now. "I get to sit down with them and tell stories about my parents and grandparents, keeping their memories alive."
Lessons from a Remarkable Mother
Jane, now 69, has always admired her mother, Mieke, for her resilience and wisdom. Mieke spent over three years in a Japanese internment camp during World War II before moving to the U.K., where she met Jane's father. Despite the hardships she faced, Mieke had an incredible ability to focus on the present and help others. "My mom was extraordinary," Jane reflects. "She taught me that life will always have its challenges, but the key to getting through them is not dwelling on the past. Instead, she encouraged me to live in the moment, appreciate what I have, and find ways to support those who are less fortunate."
Open Hearts Foundation: Making a Difference
For years, Jane has channeled her mother's teachings into her work with the Open Hearts Foundation. During the pandemic, the foundation provided grants to charities that support women and children in need. "Helping others isn't just about giving back—it's about enriching your own life," Jane says. "When you focus on what you can do for others, you start seeing the world in a more positive light. It changes the way you approach life, making you feel more fulfilled and grateful."

Spending Quality Time with Her Grandchildren
Recently, Jane has been fortunate enough to spend a lot of time with her grandchildren: Rowan, 7, Willa, 6, and Luna, 4. "They have one day of school here every week on Fridays, and everything happens outdoors," she explains. "We swim, go to the beach, garden, and have all sorts of little adventures. Being around them keeps me young and active because kids move so quickly and never seem to slow down!"
Jane says she sees a lot of herself in her grandchildren. "Willa and Luna love performing and dancing all the time—they're little stars in the making," she laughs. "And Rowan is such a wonderful young man, so handsome and kind-hearted." It wouldn't surprise anyone if one of them followed in her footsteps in the entertainment industry. "They've started watching Dr. Quinn—they absolutely adore it," Jane shares.
On October 9, Jane's latest film, The War With Grandpa, featuring Robert De Niro, will hit theaters. "It's a hilarious movie," Jane reveals. "Robert plays a character that's nothing like his usual roles, and it's fantastic to see him in such a lighthearted way." She also stars in Friendsgiving, a holiday comedy set to release on October 23 with an incredible cast.
Jane is deeply grateful for everything she has and knows how proud her late mother, Mieke, would be of her great-grandchildren. She's even been teaching them how to speak with a British accent. "I told them they need to pronounce things the English way when they visit England," she jokes. "But they refuse to say 'tomato' or 'bath' the English way—they're sticking to their American accents!"
