For decades, Garth Brooks has been a beloved figure in the world of country music. Yet, there was a time when the spotlight wasn't his primary focus. For 14 years, the legendary singer stepped away from the limelight to focus on what mattered most to him—his family. This wasn't a decision he made lightly, but it was one he embraced wholeheartedly. When his three daughters entered the picture, Garth knew his priorities had to shift. He didn't hesitate to put his dreams on hold to take on the role of being a devoted dad.
Family Over Fame: Garth Brooks on Parenting
During a heartfelt appearance on CBS This Morning in early June, the 59-year-old singer opened up about his life as a father. With a warm smile, he talked about his daughters—Taylor Brooks, 28, August Brooks, 27, and Allie Colleen Brooks, 24—revealing that once they came into his life, everything changed. "Children take the lead. That's it," Garth said, emphasizing how his perspective shifted the moment his kids arrived. He explained that his children never asked to be famous, and it was his responsibility to protect them from the pressures of public life. "They didn’t want to come into this world of fame. It wasn’t their choice; we brought them into it," he shared, referring to his ex-wife, Sandy Mahl.

Putting Family First: A Tough but Rewarding Choice
Garth's decision to prioritize his family wasn't just about stepping away from the stage; it was about ensuring his children had the stability and love they deserved. Even as his marriage to Sandy Mahl came to an end after 15 years, Garth remained committed to their shared responsibility as parents. "Even though Sandy and I were not going to be able to complete our marriage, we still had our children to raise," he explained. Following their split, Garth made a bold move—he left the bustling city of Nashville and returned to his roots in Oklahoma. There, he dedicated himself to being the best dad he could be, even though the transition wasn't always easy. "I got divorced, left the music business, and suddenly found myself living with three strange women I didn’t know," he joked during an event in November 2019. "Females ruled my new world now." Despite the challenges, Garth embraced the opportunity to grow as a father and a person.
