If you’ve ever been a fan of Broadway, animation, or just good old-fashioned talent, you’ve likely crossed paths with Bernadette Peters. Known for her iconic role as Cinderella, this legendary star has dazzled audiences worldwide. But did you know she’s voiced Sophie in Anastasia and brought Lily St. Regis to life in Annie? And guess what? She’s not done yet. Bernadette, 72, is ready to take her already incredible career to the next level.
Heading Toward New Adventures on the Stage
When I sat down with Bernadette for an exclusive chat at the Broadway opening night of Girl From The North Country on Thursday, March 5, she opened up about her exciting plans. “I’d love to start doing plays,” she told Closer Weekly. “Even though I adore singing, it would be fascinating to explore some dramatic roles.” Bernadette’s enthusiasm is infectious, and it’s clear she’s ready to take on fresh challenges in her career. Her dedication to her craft is truly inspiring.

No Signs of Slowing Down
For Bernadette, retirement isn’t even on the radar. In fact, she dreams of working with some of the biggest names in the industry, like Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino. “They’re the greats,” she says with a smile. But when asked about the highlight of her career, Bernadette admits it’s hard to choose just one. She’s been blessed with so many incredible opportunities, from collaborating with Stephen Sondheim to performing in Jerry Herman’s unforgettable productions. Her journey has come full circle, starting with Mack & Mabel and culminating in her stunning performance in Hello, Dolly! “It’s a beautifully constructed show,” she recalls, “and I had no idea how amazing it was until I worked on it.”

Bernadette is incredibly grateful for the era in which she’s been able to work, especially during Stephen Sondheim’s prolific years. “I’m really fortunate,” she says, her voice filled with appreciation. “Steve created some of the most incredible shows, and I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of them.”
