When Princess Charlotte turned six on May 2, Prince William and Duchess Kate (née Middleton) ensured her special day was all about her. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spent a delightful weekend filled with games, horse riding, and other activities Charlotte adores, as exclusively revealed to Closer Weekly.
Weekend Getaway to Anmer Hall
“Charlotte wanted to celebrate her birthday at Anmer Hall, so the Cambridges left London and headed to their serene country home,” an insider shares. “They spent the long weekend there as a family, making it a truly memorable experience.”

Charlotte chose Anmer Hall for her celebration because she absolutely loves the place, according to the insider. “It’s incredibly private, and there’s tons of outdoor space for her to enjoy playing in.”

Charlotte’s Special Morning
On the morning of her birthday, Charlotte was up early, eager to open her cards and presents. “She was up at the crack of dawn, excited to see what she had received,” the source explains. “The night before, Kate, 39, decorated Anmer Hall with balloons and baked a beautiful cake, ensuring the day would be extra special.”
A Day Filled with Fun Activities
Aside from visiting the local stables for her favorite hobby of horse riding, William, 38, Kate, and their children, Prince George, 7, and Prince Louis, 3, enjoyed a variety of activities. These included children’s croquet, tennis, football, picking and cooking vegetables from their vegetable garden, and even making pies. It was a day filled with laughter and family bonding.
Charlotte prefers spending time at Anmer Hall over their main home at Kensington Palace because the Cambridges have designed it to be a perfect playground for their children. “The garden is truly magnificent,” the insider reveals. “William and Kate bought the kids a new swing and slide during lockdown, and there’s a massive trampoline. When it’s warm, the kids love playing tennis and swimming in the pool. William even built Charlotte a little outdoor playhouse, which she adores. She spends hours there, creating her own little world.”
