If there's one thing Mark Consuelos knows how to do, it's turn an embarrassing moment into something we can all laugh about. During the premiere of the new season of Live With Kelly and Mark, the co-host shared a hilarious yet slightly painful story about an injury he suffered while enjoying a much-deserved summer break with his wife, Kelly Ripa.
How Did Mark Consuelos Get Injured?
It all started with a game of beach volleyball. Mark, who has always been known for his charm and humor, admitted that the incident was, in his own words, "embarrassing." During the season premiere on Tuesday, September 5, the 52-year-old actor appeared on-screen wearing a cast on one of his fingers. This small but significant accessory became the star of the show as he recounted the story behind it.
"I was setting the ball, and it just felt a little off," Mark recalled. "The next thing I know, my finger is bent at a right angle at the tip. I thought, 'This can't be good.'"

What Happened Next?
Mark's beach volleyball mishap didn't stop there. He tried to straighten out his finger, but it kept snapping back into place, much to his dismay. "It was like trying to hoist a flag, but it just kept going back to half-mast," he joked. Determined to figure out what was wrong, Mark decided to visit the doctor, where he learned he had suffered a "malette finger." Essentially, this injury occurs when the tendon in the finger is torn, leaving it unable to fully extend.
Despite the severity of the injury, Mark was quick to point out that the experience wasn't painful at all. "I didn't feel a thing when it happened," he assured the audience. "But now, I've got to wear this cast for eight weeks. It's not the worst thing in the world, but it's definitely inconvenient."
Kelly Ripa Joins In On The Fun
As Mark shared his story, Kelly couldn't help but laugh along with the audience. The 52-year-old TV personality found humor in her husband's predicament, teasing him about his newfound love for the injury. "Nobody loves an injury more than Mark," she quipped. "Our vacation went from relaxation to full-time finger care. It was all about tending to Mark's finger."
Mark, ever the jokester, even asked Kelly to sign his cast, which only added to the playful banter between the two. The couple, who share three children—Michael, Lola, and Joaquin—seemed to have turned the incident into a family affair. Kelly joked about Mark's excessive attention to his bandages, saying, "He was changing them every 15 to 20 minutes!" Mark defended himself, explaining, "I was swimming, and it kept getting wet!"

Kelly even shared that Mark developed a habit of tapping on the dinner table with his cast-covered finger, much to the annoyance of their children. "It became our family's new theme for the vacation," she joked. "Malette finger was all we talked about!"
A Family Getaway With Friends
Despite the finger drama, the Consuelos-Ripa family had a fantastic time on their vacation. Kelly shared a delightful montage of photos from the trip on her Instagram account, giving fans a glimpse into their relaxing getaway. Mark's Riverdale co-star Cole Sprouse also joined the family after the series finale aired this summer, making the trip even more memorable.
