Let’s dive into the world of Hollywood royalty, shall we? Actor Kevin Bacon, the man who’s graced our screens for decades, has opened up about some lesser-known facts about himself. From the shocking reason he almost didn’t land his breakout role in "Footloose" to the quirky thing he insists his wife Kyra Sedgwick do around the house, Kevin is spilling all the tea. Here’s what you need to know about the legendary star, straight from the man himself.
From TV Snob to Small-Screen Superstar
It’s hard to imagine now, but back in the 1970s, when Kevin Bacon was just starting out, there was a stark divide between TV and movie actors. “Back then, TV actors and movie actors were two completely different worlds,” Kevin, now 65, recalls with a chuckle. “I’ll be honest—I didn’t want anything to do with television. I thought it was beneath me.” But as we all know, times have changed dramatically. “Now, we’re in the golden age of television,” he says. “The quality of storytelling on TV rivals anything in movies. I’ve had the privilege of working on incredible shows like The Following and City on a Hill, and I couldn’t be happier.”
Growing Up in the Shadow of a Legend
Kevin’s father, Edmund Bacon, was no ordinary guy. “My dad was a city planner—a true visionary in his field,” Kevin says fondly. “He was often referred to as the Robert Moses of Philadelphia. He even made it onto the cover of Time magazine once! Growing up, I’d walk down the street with him, and people would call out, ‘Mr. Bacon!’ It was always about him, and I’d think, ‘Why aren’t they talking to me?’” Kevin laughs. “I think that’s where my competitive streak came from. I wanted to be even more famous than my dad—and I guess I’ve done pretty well for myself.”

Almost Missing Out on "Footloose"
One of Kevin’s most iconic roles is Ren McCormack in the 1984 blockbuster "Footloose." But here’s the twist: he almost didn’t get the part. “The head of the studio at the time was a woman, and she wasn’t exactly sold on me,” Kevin shares with a grin. “She said something along the lines of, ‘He’s not f–kable enough.’ Can you believe that? But thankfully, the director and producer really believed in me, and they fought for me to get the role. I’m so glad they did because ‘Footloose’ changed my life forever.”
Singing to the Goats: A Quarantine Hobby That Stuck
When the pandemic hit, like many of us, Kevin found himself looking for new hobbies. But his choice might surprise you. “I started singing to the goats on my farm in Connecticut,” he says with a laugh. “And, believe it or not, it became a hit on Instagram! I call it ‘Goat Songs,’ and it’s been more popular than I ever imagined. Who knew goats were such great critics?”
Not All Fears Are Created Equal
Despite his larger-than-life career, Kevin has one fear that might make you smile. “I’m terrified of mice,” he admits. “I don’t mind rats—they’re kind of cool—but mice? No way. If I ever find a dead mouse in the house, it’s Kyra’s job to clean it up. I just can’t handle it—it grosses me out so much!”
