"This time, Lordy, I even got invited to have tea with Kate," she confessed with her signature twang. "I felt so bad because they had everything all set up. Just a couple of months back, in late June, Dolly jetted off to London to promote her latest rock album, Rockstar. Way back in 1977, she had the chance to meet Queen Elizabeth II backstage at the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. "I remember as a child being utterly fascinated by kings and queens, their flamboyant clothes, and their whole world of riches and crowns," Dolly recalled. "But when I finally met her, she was just so sweet and down-to-earth."
A Royal Encounter to Remember
When Dolly found out she’d be performing in front of Queen Elizabeth, she was over the moon. "When they told me on the plane that I’d be appearing in front of the queen, I just jumped up and down, telling everyone on the flight," she recalled with excitement. "It was one of the biggest thrills of my life." However, Dolly admitted she was nervous about following royal protocol. "I was scared stiff that I wouldn’t know how to curtsy or bend right, but she was so warm and sweet. Meeting the Queen of England was truly amazing." Queen Elizabeth II passed away on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96. Dolly fondly remembered her as a symbol of "grace and strength."
