Dean Cain Reflects On His Journey From Superman To Spirituality

Dean Cain Reveals Why He’s So Open About Discussing Politics: ‘My

By 1993, Dean Cain seemed to have it all. Landing the coveted role of Superman in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman catapulted him into the spotlight, bringing fame and opportunity. But as the years rolled by, the grueling hours on set began to take their toll. “I couldn’t see the end,” Dean, now 57, reveals in an exclusive interview with Closer. “It was hours and hours on set, almost every day of the week, for years. It felt endless.”

Fast forward three decades, and Dean has traded the bustling world of Hollywood for the serene lifestyle of Las Vegas. Here, he’s discovered a healthier work-life balance, focusing on projects that resonate with him on both personal and spiritual levels. “Acting has become so much more than a job for me,” he shares. “It’s about crafting stories that can truly impact people, change perspectives, or even teach them something. It’s a gift, and it’s such a rewarding way to make a living.”

Starting Off: The Reluctant Actor

Did you always dream of becoming an actor?

  • “Not at all. Honestly, I thought acting was kind of silly. It seemed like a strange world, and I wasn’t sure if I even had what it took to act. You never know if people will like you or dislike you. The uncertainty of it all made me hesitant.”

Ironically, your father, Christopher Cain, is a well-known director in the industry.

“Exactly. My dad directed iconic films like Young Guns. But when I told him I wanted to pursue acting, he gave me three simple words: ‘Don’t do it.’”

    Why did he discourage you?

“I think he wanted me to stay out of the limelight. He understood how the industry strips away privacy, and as a protective father, he was concerned. Acting is tough work, and you’re constantly open to criticism. If you can’t handle rejection or negativity, this isn’t the field for you. But despite his advice, I followed my heart, and now, looking back, I’m so glad I did. And so is he.”

  • “Absolutely. Early on, he cautioned me about interviews, advising me to keep my answers short and sweet. But as I’ve grown older, I’ve become more vocal about my opinions. If I feel passionate about a topic, like politics, I believe my voice matters and can make a difference. Politics might not interest everyone, but trust me, it affects every aspect of our lives. It’s fascinating once you dive in.”

Life as Superman: The Highs and Lows

What was it like playing the Man of Steel in Lois & Clark?

“It was an incredible experience, but at times, it felt like it would never end. Now, I know I’d never take on a role that demands being one of the show’s main leads again. It consumes your life, leaving little room for anything else.”

Do you have any favorite memories from filming the series?

“Oh, man. Lois & Clark was life-changing. It was such a thrill to be part of a series during the era of just three network channels. Remember those days? I do. There were so many unforgettable moments, especially when we welcomed legendary guest stars like Tony Curtis and Raquel Welch. Those were the days.”

Iconic Guest Stars: The Case of Raquel Welch

What stands out about Raquel Welch’s appearance?

“That was a memorable episode. Raquel played a villain named Diana Stride who tried to kill Superman with kryptonite-infused lipstick. Talk about bad news! After the scene, I called my dad and said, ‘Guess what? I just kissed Raquel Welch.’ It blew his mind, and it’s a memory I’ll treasure forever.”

Faith and Family: The Pillars of Dean Cain’s Life

You’ve been open about your spiritual journey. How does faith play a role in your life today?

“I’ve always been searching for meaning, trying to understand why we’re here and what our purpose is. I even took a course at Princeton on religion, studying the major faiths—Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam. It didn’t provide all the answers, but it definitely made me think differently. Now, I feel connected to God in a way that brings me immense peace.”

    The Impact of Parenthood

How has becoming a father changed your perspective?

“The birth of my son, Christopher, now 23, completely transformed me. Seeing him come into the world and realizing he’s more important than anything else—it’s powerful. It made me reflect on the existence of God and Jesus, opening my eyes to a whole new way of living.”

    Who is Christopher?

“Christopher is a tall, blond-haired, blue-eyed young man with Japanese heritage. My biological father is Japanese, though I never met him. My mom, a petite blond, raised me alongside my brother, Roger, who was also adopted by my dad, Christopher Cain.”

Do you ever dream of visiting Japan?

“Absolutely. I’d love to take Christopher to Japan for an extended visit. He’s my favorite person, and spending time there together would be amazing. It’d be a break from my usual hectic schedule of jumping from one place to another.”

    Investing in the Future

Tell us about your partnership with Genesis Gold Group.

“I’ve always been savvy with investments, dabbling in the stock market and real estate. Recently, I’ve turned my focus to precious metals like gold and silver. I admire Genesis Gold Group’s values and ethics, which is why they call themselves Genesis. If you look back at religious history, the three wise men brought gold, frankincense, and myrrh to baby Jesus. Precious metals have always been, and will always be, valuable.”

    Looking Back, Looking Forward

What’s left on your bucket list?

“To be honest, my bucket list feels pretty full. I’ve been incredibly blessed in my 57 years on this planet, and I’m truly grateful for every moment.”
