It seemed like everything was set for Hoda Kotb and her daughters, Haley and Hope, to move into their dream new home, but life had other plans. The beloved Today host recently revealed a little hiccup in their moving timeline. Don’t worry, though—things are still on track, just with a slight delay while workers put the finishing touches on the house.
“We haven’t made the move yet because they’re still working on the final details,” Hoda shared with People in a July 10 interview. “They’re still painting something, but once that’s done, we’ll be all set to move in. I think everyone is pretty excited about it.”
Why Moving Might Be Good for the Family
Hoda, who also hosts the popular “Making Space” podcast, opened up about why she believes this change will benefit her kids, whom she shares with her former fiancé, Joel Schiffman. Change, as it turns out, can be a powerful thing, especially for young minds.

“Change is so important for kids,” Hoda reflected. “Through the podcast, I’ve learned that when people uproot themselves and move to a new environment, they actually grow stronger. Sure, it’s scary while you’re in transition—like being in the air with your roots dangling—but once you land in fertile soil, you become more resilient. The more you embrace change, the better off you are.”
Looking Back at the Initial Announcement
This update comes shortly after Hoda, now 59, announced back on June 3 that she and her daughters were ready to take the leap into their new home. During an episode of Today With Hoda & Jenna, she shared her bittersweet feelings about leaving behind the place where so many memories were made.
“I was sitting at my desk this morning, where I sit every single day. It’s my sacred space—where I light a candle, journal, and reflect,” she said during her chat with cohost Jenna Bush Hager. “And I realized, ‘This is the last Monday I’ll be sitting here because we’re moving this week.’ It’s such a moment of transition.”

Leaving the home where she raised her daughters is naturally a mix of emotions for Hoda, but she’s focusing on the positive. “It’s bittersweet,” she admitted. “I remember when they first tried to crawl up the stairs, and now, they race up and down them. Every step of the way has been filled with memories. I remember carrying them up those stairs for the very first time, placing them in their cribs, all the little milestones. It’s a chapter closing, but I’m excited to create new ones.”
What’s Next for Hoda?
It’s unclear whether Hoda plans to sell her apartment in New York City or her home on Long Island as part of this new chapter. However, during a March episode of her “Making Space” podcast, she mentioned that moving with her daughters, Haley, 7, and Hope, 4, brought back memories of her own childhood moves.
“I’ve been reflecting on how many times my family moved when I was growing up,” Hoda explained to her guest, author Arthur Brooks. “There was one time we moved to Nigeria when I was in fourth grade, and I was terrified. Everything felt so different—the language, the culture. It was hard, but looking back now, those experiences shaped who I am today.”

“As a parent, it’s funny how I want to shield my kids from some of the challenges I faced growing up, but deep down, I know these experiences can be transformative,” she added. “Life is about growth, and sometimes, you’ve got to embrace the unknown.”
