Since the final episode of Good Bones aired in mid-October, Mina Starsiak Hawk's brother, Tad Starsiak, has been sharing deeply personal and inspiring content on his Instagram page. In a recent video posted on November 14, the HGTV personality got candid about the challenges of "struggling in silence" amidst ongoing family drama. It’s the kind of raw honesty we don’t always hear from men, and Tad is making sure his voice is heard loud and clear.

In the caption accompanying the video, Tad wrote, “Men may struggle in silence with different issues, but we have to break the silence and go talk to someone. We are men, but we are just human.” There’s something incredibly powerful about a man using his platform to normalize vulnerability. It’s not about weakness; it’s about being real.

In the video, Tad, who’s 30 years old, dives into some of the scenarios where men often find themselves struggling in silence. He mentions feelings like “not feeling like a good provider,” dealing with “imposter syndrome,” or simply “not knowing how to communicate their feelings and emotions.” He then encourages his followers to “break the stigma” and “ask for help.” It’s a simple message, but one that carries so much weight in today’s world.

Just a month before this heartfelt video, Tad shared another post focused on letting go of negative emotions. In the caption of the October 11 clip, he wrote, “We only get so much time to live on this Earth, why spend any amount of it being angry? It’s just not worth it.” There’s wisdom in those words, reminding us all to prioritize peace and joy in our lives, even when things get tough.

The Family Drama Behind the Scenes

While filming season 8 of Good Bones, it came out that Tad and his sister Mina, 38, weren’t on “good terms.” Mina opened up about their strained relationship during a September 20 episode of her “Mina AF” podcast. She explained how she decided to “back away” from Tad after a particularly tense text exchange. “My brother Tad said some really awful stuff to me and I’m sure he would say that I’ve said some awful stuff to him too,” she recalled during the episode. “But the most recent stuff he said to me, he can’t say it’s not what he said. He can’t say I misunderstood. It’s in text and it’s black and white and that was kind of my final straw there.”

    Gratitude Despite the Rift

Even amidst their rift, Tad expressed immense gratitude towards Mina and her mom, Karen E. Laine, for allowing him to be part of Good Bones over the years. On October 20, he captioned a series of photos from the show’s set, saying, “To all the fans, I feel like you all watched me grow up, and there’s something special about that. To all those people who helped build me up and taught me what I know — Lenny, Terry, Brad, Cory, Mina, Adam, Zack and so many others, thank you. And most thanks to Mina and Karen, none of this would have been possible for any of us without you two.”

As the series finale aired, viewers were treated to a touching moment when Tad proposed to Anna Spiars in the newly renovated kitchen of their Indiana home. It was a beautiful way to wrap up a show that meant so much to him and his family. Reflecting on the experience, Tad said, “I do know my family, friends and I got the opportunity to do what so many dream to do. I know that we got to shine a spotlight on my favorite place, Indy, and in some regards, put it on the map for some. I know we made a lot of people happy and excited getting to tune into a new episode of Good Bones every Tuesday, maybe providing them some carefree entertainment from crazy everyday life.”
