Hey there, let's dive into the story of Sally Field and her no-holds-barred take on her rocky relationship with the late Burt Reynolds. In a candid moment, Sally opens up about the highs and lows of their time together, sharing some not-so-glamorous moments that might surprise you.

Looking Back: Sally Field Recalls Her Turbulent Time with Burt Reynolds

In Dave Karger's upcoming book 50 Oscar Nights, which hits shelves on January 23, Sally Field reflects on her relationship with Reynolds, revealing a side of him that was less than supportive. The Mrs. Doubtfire star recalled, “He really was not a nice guy around me then.”

When Oscar Night Turned Into a Test of Friendship

Sally, now 77, revealed that in 1980, Reynolds was reluctant to attend the Oscars with her, even going so far as to declare, “I’m not going to go.” Thankfully, her dear friends David Steinberg and his wife Judy Marcione stepped in to make the night unforgettable. “Then David said, ‘Well, for God’s sakes, we’ll take you,’” Sally shared with a smile. “They made it a big celebration. They picked me up in a limousine and had champagne in the car. They made it just wonderful fun.”

Sally also revealed that Reynolds wasn’t keen on her attending the Cannes Film Festival. “He did not want me to go to Cannes at all,” she reflected. “He said, ‘You don’t think you’re going to win anything, do you?’” It’s moments like these that paint a clearer picture of the challenges Sally faced during their relationship.

The Aftermath: A Life Beyond Burt Reynolds

The couple dated for five years before parting ways in the early '80s. Reynolds later married actress Loni Anderson in 1988, but their union ended in 1994. They adopted one child during their marriage, son Quinton.

When Reynolds passed away in September 2018 at the age of 82 from a heart attack, Sally released a heartfelt statement. “There are times in your life that are so indelible, they never fade away,” she said. “They stay alive, even 40 years later. My years with Burt never leave my mind. He will be in my history and my heart, for as long as I live. Rest, Buddy.”

Sally, who was married to Alan Greisman from 1984 to 1994, hadn’t spoken to Reynolds in the 30 years leading up to his death. Still, she fondly remembered him in her 2018 memoir, In Pieces. “I’ve always thought of him rather nostalgically … He was a very important part of my life, but for a tiny little part of my life,” the Emmy winner said. “It was so hugely important in my own existence, my own movement as a person.”
