If there’s one thing Kelly Ripa knows how to handle, it’s a snow day in New York City. The beloved co-host of Live With Kelly and Mark recently opened up about the quirky challenges that come with working during inclement weather, sharing some laughs and behind-the-scenes insights with her husband, Mark Consuelos, on the show.
During an episode aired on Monday, January 15, Mark, who plays the charming character of Javier on Riverdale, teased Kelly about the potential for a snow day. The 52-year-old actor mentioned that NYC was expecting a few inches of snow overnight, sparking his curiosity about whether he and Kelly might get a day off. “No, are you kidding?” Kelly quickly shot back, her tone playful yet firm.
“Let me walk you through what happens here,” Kelly explained with a smile, as if recounting a familiar tale. “Apparently, we haven’t been married long enough for you to understand how this works. When the snow falls, I’ll bundle up and walk across Central Park to get to the studio. And guess what? The studio will be eerily empty. No one will be there.”

The Emmy-winning host went on to describe the makeshift arrangements that occur during such weather events. “You see, when the snow hits, the disgruntled producers, interns, and other studio staff who braved the storm will sit in the audience to help us fill the seats. It’s not exactly glamorous, but it gets the job done,” Kelly joked, earning a round of laughter from those present during the taping.
The next day, life seemed to go on as usual for the duo, with actor Jason Priestley joining them in the studio. Sure enough, snow blanketed the city on Tuesday, January 16, but Kelly handled it like a pro, just as she always does. For her, snow days are part of the charm and challenge of hosting a live show in the heart of New York.
Kelly’s Love Affair with Snowy Days
It’s no secret that Kelly has a special place in her heart for snowy NYC days. Back in December 2020, she charmed fans with a viral video showing her enjoying a McRib sandwich from McDonald's in front of a roaring fireplace at her cozy Manhattan home. When the colder months roll around, Kelly and Mark often take a break from the bustling city life to enjoy some quality family time by the beach with their kids, Michael, Lola, and Joaquin. “We love spending time near the ocean,” Mark revealed in a December 2023 interview with Mr. Feelgood. “Every evening at 6 p.m., I’d jump into the water with my family for a sunset swim. Watching the sun dip below the horizon while surrounded by my loved ones is one of my favorite moments.”
