Today host Dylan Dreyer has a life that’s anything but calm, especially when you throw in the joys (and challenges) of raising three young boys. Recently, she opened up about the whirlwind of chaos that ensued when all three of her little ones fell ill. If you’ve ever been there, you know exactly what she’s talking about.
“This morning was pure chaos because kids are sick and no one has slept,” Dylan wrote in an Instagram post on January 12. She went on to explain how her eldest, Calvin, or "Cal" as she fondly calls him, made her day just a little brighter. “All Cal wanted to do was make me smile before I left. That’s all it took!” The simple yet heartfelt gesture was exactly what she needed to get her through the day.
Calvin handed Dylan a piece of paper with the heartfelt message, “I Love You,” written on it. Fans of Dylan were quick to shower her with love and support in the comments section. Many have been following her parenting journey ever since she welcomed her first child, Calvin, with her husband Brian Fichera back in December 2016. One commenter remarked, “Cal has a gentle and sweet soul,” capturing the essence of the tender moment perfectly.

A Growing Family
Brian and Dylan tied the knot in 2012, and their family has grown beautifully since then. In addition to Calvin, the couple is also raising two more bundles of joy—sons Oliver, born in January 2020, and Russell, who came into the world in September 2021. Just a few days after sharing her story about the chaos of having all three boys sick, Dylan decided to turn the tables and share something positive: her go-to soup recipe, which she made with Cal's help right in their NYC kitchen.
The Recipe That Warms Hearts and Souls
“I love a good warm soup, especially when I can fill it with veggies my kids actually don’t mind eating,” Dylan explained in an Instagram caption while sharing a video of them cooking together. She went on to describe her method, saying, “I love to pile the avocado and tortilla strips in the bottom of a bowl then pour the soup on top. I also love adding sour cream and a splash of lime juice!”
She added, “My boys are big fans of this one, and the next day I’ll drain the broth and make quesadillas!” It’s clear that this recipe not only fills their tummies but also creates lasting memories for the family.
But life hasn’t always been smooth sailing for Dylan in the kitchen. She revealed that after Cal was diagnosed with celiac disease, she had to completely revamp her cooking and kitchen setup.
The Big Kitchen Overhaul
“Not only is it not feeding him any wheat products, but it’s also the cross-contamination risk,” Dylan explained to Today.com back in May 2023. “All of my stuff in the kitchen had to be thrown out—all of our wooden spoons, wooden cutting boards, anything that had a scratch in it… any rivets on the inside of the pot where the handle is. All of that had to be thrown out because gluten can hide everywhere.”
After making these changes, Cal started feeling much better. “I’m happy to report that since we took gluten out of Calvin’s diet, his hair’s not falling out anymore,” Dylan happily shared. “He has no rashes. His ear doesn’t hurt. He has no headache, and his stomach doesn’t hurt.”
