Hey there, friends. After taking a little break from Instagram, Karen E. Laine is back and sharing some exciting updates about her newest project. She posted on November 5, just days after news broke that she and her husband, Roger Rominger, had officially separated, as revealed in court documents obtained by Closer.
Helping Out the Good Bones Alums
At 61 years old, Karen is still as active as ever. These days, she's lending her expertise to help former Good Bones co-stars Alexa and Tyler revamp their garden. In a recent Instagram video, Karen explained the project with her signature enthusiasm. "So today, we're at Alexa's house, and we're having what I like to call a 'frolic.' The main goal? Tidying up those front garden beds," she said, giving her followers a peek into the process.
Tyler chimed in, explaining the garden's transformation. "First things first, we're getting rid of the grass to create a new bed area," he said. "This will create a nice boundary between the street, driveway, and backyard, adding more privacy while ensuring the plants are in the perfect spots." It's clear that Tyler has picked up a thing or two from Karen, who jokingly called him her "best student ever." She even mentioned how much he's learned from her over the years.

Stepping Back from Social Media
Interestingly, Karen hadn't posted on her Instagram feed for an entire month before sharing this video. It seems like she's been focusing on personal matters and taking a moment to recharge. Let's face it—life can get overwhelming, and sometimes we all need a break. But now she's back, and her fans couldn't be happier to see her.

A Year of Change
The past year has been a whirlwind for Karen. She appeared alongside her daughter, Mina Starsiak Hawk, in the series finale of Good Bones, which aired on October 17. During the filming of the final season, tensions were reportedly high between the designers, as Mina revealed on her podcast back in August. And if that wasn't enough, Karen wasn't even invited to her grandson Jack's 5th birthday party in August. Life can throw a lot at you, and Karen's been handling it all with grace.
Ending a Marriage
Adding to the mix, Karen filed for legal separation from Roger in April 2022, marking the end of her fourth marriage. Roger later petitioned to turn the separation into a full divorce in January. The case is still ongoing, with the next court hearing scheduled for November 27. It's been a tough road, but Karen's keeping her chin up.
In a recent episode of the “What’s Up Wilmington” podcast, Karen opened up about the differences in her and Roger's visions for retirement. While Roger wanted to retire on a sailboat, Karen found herself drawn to a more grounded life. She purchased a home in Wilmington, North Carolina, after their separation, and it seems like this decision was the right one for her. "When I plant my feet on the ground at my little house, it’s like they don’t want to go anywhere," she said. "This is where they belong."

Looking Ahead
Karen's excited about what's next. Renovations are currently underway on her new home, and she feels like she's exactly where she's meant to be. "I’m in the right place at the right time," she shared. She's also hopeful that her next chapter might be featured on an HGTV spinoff series, giving fans a chance to follow along with her journey. Who knows? Maybe we'll all get to see Karen's new adventure unfold right before our eyes.
