The Gilded Age cast and crew have been dropping some major hints about what's coming in Season 3, including the possibility of the characters entering a "divorce era." This could shake things up in ways we haven’t seen yet, diving deep into the societal norms of the time. Francesca Orsi, the Executive Vice President and Head of Drama at HBO, gave us some juicy details in an exclusive interview with Deadline.

What’s Coming in Season 3?

According to Francesca Orsi, Season 3 will explore how divorce became a pivotal topic in relationships during that era. “We’re going to delve into the complexities of arranged marriages and what happens when they don’t work out,” she explained. “The question of divorce during this period is fascinating—it wasn’t just about personal matters; it had societal implications. Will these characters be accepted or shunned by society after a divorce? It’s all part of the drama we’re bringing to the screen.”

Season 2 Recap: The Russell Marriage

In Season 2, we witnessed the strain in the marriage of Bertha Russell and George Russell. By the time the season finale rolled around, they managed to patch things up, but not without some serious tension. Bertha's triumph over Mrs. Astor in the opera house feud was monumental. She successfully won over the Duke of Buckingham, proving that her wealth and determination could outmatch even the most established members of New York’s elite.

Carrie Coon’s Excitement for Season 3

Carrie Coon, who plays Bertha Russell, spoke with People in August 2024 about the upcoming season. “Getting a Season 3 was something we didn’t expect, so it’s thrilling to know that the fans really saved this show,” she said. “Now, we’re diving deeper into the storytelling without needing to introduce new characters. It’s all about the drama and the pace, which is breathless. Julian Fellows and Sonja Warfield have done an incredible job keeping the momentum going.”

Carrie also expressed her satisfaction with Bertha’s arc in Season 2. “Bertha’s victory in the opera war was significant. Mrs. Astor knew she’d have to yield eventually because Bertha represents a new kind of wealth that’s almost impossible to ignore. Bertha’s relentless push for acceptance is what makes her so compelling.”

Carrie added, “As long as Bertha keeps pushing, she’ll get everything she wants. History shows us that the wealthy often get what they desire. That’s the reality of the era we’re portraying.”

    Shocking Twists Ahead

Carrie Coon hinted at some major surprises in Season 3. “I was genuinely shocked by some of the twists in the scripts. They keep surprising me, and I haven’t even seen all of them yet. I’m excited to see how everything unfolds.”

Co-star Louisa Jacobson, who plays Marian Brook, also teased the upcoming season. “There are some incredible plot twists in store for fans. It’s going to keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat,” she told People on February 1.
