These days, fans are willing to travel from all corners of the globe just to catch a glimpse of their favorite morning talk show hosts. But what happens when the stars you’ve come so far to see aren’t even there? For one devoted family, their dream of meeting Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb took an unexpected twist.
When Savannah and Hoda Were MIA
On a crisp Wednesday, December 27, the iconic duo of Savannah Guthrie, 52, and Hoda Kotb, 59, were nowhere to be found on the set of Today. Both had taken the day off to enjoy some precious family time during the holiday season. Meanwhile, out in the bustling crowd at New York City’s legendary Rockefeller Center, a family caught everyone's attention with their matching sweatshirts that boldly declared, “I traveled 2,800 miles to see Hoda and Savannah.”
A Heartfelt Apology From Jacob Soboroff
NBC News’ own Jacob Soboroff, one of the guest cohosts filling in that day, couldn’t help but notice the family’s plight. With a mix of empathy and humor, he addressed the situation head-on. “I am so, so sorry,” he told the audience with a warm smile. “Their sweatshirts say, ‘I traveled 2,800 miles to see Hoda and Savannah,’ and all they got was us.”

Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Jacob did his best to make the family feel appreciated. Alongside cohosts Dylan Dreyer, Peter Alexander, and Laura Jarrett, he went above and beyond to brighten their day.
Meeting the Family From California
Jacob made a beeline for the family, eager to learn more about their incredible journey. It turned out they had traveled all the way from California, marking their second visit to the Big Apple. Even though Savannah and Hoda weren’t there to greet them in person, the family took the opportunity to wish Savannah a happy birthday as she celebrated at home with her husband, Mike Feldman, and her children, Vale and Charles.
“We were thrilled to meet them, and I’m happy they got to say hi to their favorites this morning!” Jacob later shared on Instagram, capturing the heartwarming moment for all to see.

Hoda later got wind of the story and shared a photo of one of the family members proudly wearing their sweatshirt on her Instagram account. “Oh no!! So sorry we missed you! Thank you for coming! The sweatshirt is next level!” she captioned the post.
One of the family members responded in the comments section, expressing their hope to meet Hoda and Savannah on their next visit. “@hodakotb hopefully we can catch you and @savannahguthrie the next time we come out! We will recycle our sweatshirts!!!” they wrote.
A Glimpse Into Hoda’s Holiday
During her time off from Today, Hoda has been enjoying the holidays with her two daughters, Haley and Hope, whom she shares with her ex-fiancé, Joel Schiffman. She shared an adorable Christmas selfie with her little ones on her Instagram page, capturing the joyous spirit of the season.
