The beloved weatherman, a staple on Good Morning America, hopped on a flight with his costars to the sun-soaked beaches of the Bahamas over the weekend. This wasn’t just another trip—it was a memorable bonding experience for the GMA family.
Who Joined Sam on This Adventure?
Sam, 62, didn’t go alone. He was joined by his husband, Rubem Robierb, along with other GMA favorites like Emily Kaufman, Robin Roberts and her wife, Amber Laign, as well as Gio Benitez and his partner, Tommy DiDario. Robin, 63, and Amber, 48, tied the knot just a few months ago in September 2023, and many of their GMA costars attended the wedding. It’s clear that the camaraderie among the show’s cast doesn’t stop when the cameras turn off.
Tommy Shares a Glimpse of the Getaway
Tommy DiDario couldn’t contain his excitement about the trip. On March 23, he shared a photo of the group on Instagram with the caption, “The tradition continues. The #TravelSquad is reunited, and it feels so good. @lapalmeraiebahamas.” It’s a heartwarming reminder of how these on-air personalities truly care for one another.

Sam's Busy Schedule Balancing Work and Travel
But the Bahamas wasn’t Sam’s only destination recently. After filling in on GMA multiple times this month, he’s been bouncing back and forth between New York City and Miami to spend quality time with Rubem, 47. The couple owns homes in both cities, which allows them to split their time between the two locations. Despite the hectic schedule, Sam says it’s all worth it.
Reflecting on the Hard Work and Taking a Break
Sam admitted that stepping in as a part-time cohost on GMA was no small feat. On March 18, he took a well-deserved break. During an Instagram Live Q&A session, he opened up to his followers about the demands of his recent workload. “Three weeks straight of everyday television, I needed some time off, so this is just my normal Monday off, but it feels like I’m on vacation for just one day,” he confessed.
Sam Clarifies His Role at GMA
During a previous chat with fans, Sam clarified the status of his role on GMA. He explained that despite filling in for various hosts, he remains a part-time contributor. “No, it’s just been filling in for a lot of people who have been gone and then the projects that I’ve been doing for ABC have been keeping me busy, so in theory, still part-time, but it’s a lot,” he revealed on March 1.
Stepping In for Ginger Zee
Sam often steps in for Ginger Zee when she’s unavailable, whether she’s on vacation, dealing with illness, or out on assignment. Even with his packed schedule, Sam had an interesting response when a fan asked about retirement. “That’s really very nice, super kind of you to say,” he said. “I have no idea what the time frame is.”
