Mark Wahlberg reveals why he WON'T be having surgery after suffering

Let’s talk about Mark Wahlberg, shall we? The guy’s no stranger to pushing his limits, and his latest adventure on the set of Arthur the King proves it. While filming, Mark tore his meniscus, an injury that could’ve easily sidelined most people. But here’s the kicker—he’s decided not to go under the knife to fix it. Instead, he’s opting for corrective exercises. Now that’s what I call tough!

Why Surgery Isn’t on the Table for Mark Wahlberg

In a candid interview with People, Mark explained his reasoning behind skipping surgery. “I prefer to try to do corrective exercises versus surgery. It’s just not my thing,” he said. Now, that’s a pretty bold move, especially when you consider the potential risks involved. But Mark isn’t one to shy away from challenges, and this decision seems to align perfectly with his no-nonsense approach to life.

How the Injury Happened

So, how exactly did this injury occur? Well, Mark was running along a hill during a scene for the adventure film when he jumped off a rock and landed awkwardly. “I kind of snapped my knee back and it tore,” he explained. The injury was painful, but Mark wasn’t about to let it stop him from completing the movie. The doctor even warned him about the risks of not having surgery, saying that if the knee locks, it could get stuck in a bent position. But Mark wasn’t deterred. He decided to push through the pain and see if he could finish filming.

Now, this is where Mark’s determination truly shines. Despite the pain, he continued working on the film, even performing some of his own stunts. “I just said, ‘You know what? I got to kind of try to tough it out and see if I can get through the movie,’” he said. It’s not every day you meet someone who can push through an injury like this, but Mark’s commitment to the project speaks volumes about his character.

Mark first spoke openly about his injury during a screening of the film on February 19. Arthur the King is based on the 2016 book Arthur – The Dog Who Crossed the Jungle to Find a Home. He told Entertainment Tonight, “Unfortunately, I tore my meniscus the first day, so all my training went out the window. Then it’s basically just about getting through it.”

“So I got to understand the suffering a little bit more than I wanted to,” Mark joked. But his determination wasn’t just about finishing the movie—it was also about keeping the project alive. “I just felt like, you know, it took a long time to get the movie off the ground and we were in the middle of COVID, and if I had shut it down, I don’t know if we would’ve got it up and running again,” he reflected. “So I just kind of toughed it out and I found different ways of getting through.”

Mark’s Bond with His Canine Co-Star

One of the highlights of filming was working with a talented dog named Ukai. Mark admitted he fell head over heels for the pup. “Oh my God, I tried to bribe the trainer to sell me the dog,” he told People. “I offered her whatever she would want. But, of course, that bond is not something that you can separate. I just fell in love with him.”
