A Look Back at Barbara’s 70th Birthday
But wait, there’s more. This isn’t the first time Barbara has pulled off a memorable birthday celebration. A few years back, she celebrated her 70th birthday in a way that might surprise you—by throwing herself an early funeral. In a TikTok video, she explained the story behind this unusual celebration. “A few years back, I overheard that my friends were planning a surprise 70th birthday party and they were going to have it in my own home, to surprise me,” she recalled. But Barbara isn’t one for surprises, so she decided to turn the tables on them.

The Funeral That Turned Into a Party
She organized her own funeral, sending out invites for what seemed like a black-tie dance party. Her guests had no idea what they were walking into. “I found the perfect coffin and turned my living room into a funeral parlor,” she said. “When people walked into my own funeral parlor, I could hear them gasp as they walked into the room. They thought I was really dead! A minute later they realized the hoax and the room was rolling with laughter.” And just like that, the funeral turned into a dance party, complete with Barbara kicking her way out of the coffin to get the party started.

Barbara’s family and friends embraced the experience fully. As a mom to Tom and Kate “Katie” Higgins, whom she shares with her husband Bill Higgins, she got to hear all the nice things people say about her when she’s “gone.” “My friends and my children came to the coffin to pay their last respects, and I got to hear all the nice things people say about you when you’re dead,” she shared. And let’s not forget, the funeral didn’t stay a funeral for long. “Then I did a high kick out of that coffin to start that dancing!” she said with a laugh.
