Savannah Guthrie Steps Away From 'Today' Show
Hey there, friends! If you tuned into the 'Today' show on Thursday, June 20, or Friday, June 21, you might've noticed something a little different. Savannah Guthrie wasn't at her usual spot, and her absence was explained by none other than her cohost, the always charming Hoda Kotb. Now, let me tell you, Savannah, who’s 52 years young, isn’t slacking—she’s simply taking some much-needed time off.
On the episode airing June 20, Hoda, who’s 59 and still rocking it, broke the news at the top of the show. She announced that Savannah was "taking some well-deserved time off" from the 'Today' show. In her place, the talented Craig Melvin joined Hoda at the news desk to cover Savannah’s usual anchoring segments. Sheinelle Jones also joined the duo, bringing her usual energy and enthusiasm to the broadcast.
Savannah’s Social Media Update
Over on her Instagram account, Savannah shared a delightful photo featuring a glass of wine, a glass of water, and a coffee while enjoying a meal at a restaurant. The caption was simple yet telling: “Out of office.” Her followers were quick to chime in with supportive messages. One fan commented, “Good for you! You deserve it!” while another added, “You deserve this day! Enjoy Savannah, nice to see you are hydrating!”

On June 21, Savannah was still absent from the 'Today' show, with Craig, who’s 45 and always up for the challenge, stepping in to cohost with Hoda for the second day in a row. Laura Jarrett also joined the team at the news desk, adding her expertise to the mix.
Paris Bound: The 'Today' Crew Prepares for the Olympics
Though Savannah hasn’t yet revealed the details of her vacation or her destination, the 'Today' crew is already preparing for an exciting trip to Paris this summer to cover the Olympics. Savannah previously expressed her excitement about the opportunity, telling fans, “To quote the Pointer Sisters, ‘I’m so excited and I just can’t hide it.’”

Hoda and Savannah’s Olympic Adventures
Back in March, Hoda and Savannah made a guest appearance on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,' where they teased their upcoming trip to the Olympics and shared what they were most excited about. Hoda confidently stated during the broadcast, “The Olympics are gonna be incredible. We’ve got gymnastics, y’all, we’re gonna dominate gymnastics.”
Reflecting on their time cohosting 'Today' at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo amid the pandemic, Hoda and Savannah shared some hilarious and heartwarming stories. Savannah recounted, “You know, Hoda is like the unofficial den mother of USA Gymnastics. She cheers for them so hard. Speaking of Tokyo, during the pandemic, where we weren’t allowed to really even look at each other, Hoda was like, ‘Well their families aren’t here and someone’s going to give them a hug’ and the Japanese government was like ‘Tell that woman to stop hugging the athletes.’ It was like an international incident.”
“I almost got in trouble big time, big time,” Hoda joked, laughing about the situation.
A Cellphone-Free 'Today' Show
Savannah’s absence from the show comes just after she and Hoda implemented a significant change on 'Today'—making the set a phone-free zone. During an episode on Tuesday, June 18, Savannah showcased the new initiative by pointing out a basket of cellphones on set. She explained, “Now take a look at that. That is a basket of our cellphones. We decided to toss them in that basket for the whole show this morning. We were talking about our conversation with the Surgeon General, who wants a warning label on social media.”

Hoda chimed in, adding, “Every parent knows their kids are dying for the smartphones and every parent knows we’re as addicted as anyone else.” Savannah concluded, “We’ve had 30 minutes so far. Usually in commercial breaks, we’re taking care of our kids’ logistics but we’re feeling good.”
