At 70 years young, Kathie Lee shared her heartfelt thoughts with People in an interview published on Thursday, May 9. She said, "Every year, I tell my kids, 'Don't get me anything for Mother’s Day.' Just being with me is the best gift. And let me tell you, we FaceTime almost every day—early in the morning. That’s when I get to see my grandkids and catch up with my children. It’s a special time for me, even if we’re miles apart."
Meet the Gifford Grandkids
Kathie Lee’s son, Cody Gifford, and his wife, Erika Gifford, are the proud parents of Frankie, who’s 23 months old, and Ford, just 5 months old. Meanwhile, her daughter, Cassidy Gifford, and her husband, Ben Wierda, welcomed their little miracle, Finn, who’s now 10 months old. These grandkids are the joy of Kathie Lee’s life, and they’ve filled her days with laughter and love. She shares her children with her late husband, Frank Gifford, who passed away in August 2015 at the age of 84.

Bubbe's Delight: The Grandkids Who Stole Her Heart
When asked about her grandsons, Kathie Lee’s eyes light up. "They’re just precious," she gushes. "I’ve long since stopped wanting gifts unless they want to create something special for Bubbe, like a little painting. Those kinds of things make my heart sing. And you know what else I love? Singing to them! I make up silly little songs, and they just melt my heart every time."
A Grandma's Love Knows No Bounds
The devoted grandma made a big move to Nashville, Tennessee, in 2019, but that hasn’t stopped her from staying close to her family. "I try to visit them as much as possible," an insider revealed to Closer in December 2023. "Kathie Lee is incredibly spiritual, and she sees her grandchildren as God’s gifts. She often says that being a grandma—or Bubbe, as she prefers to be called—is a true blessing in her life."
Her friends know that Kathie Lee loves nothing more than talking about her grandkids. "You might think she’d be the kind of grandma who hovers, but she’s actually very considerate," an insider shared. "She gives Cody and Cassidy, along with their spouses, the space they need to parent. That shows how much she respects their roles as parents."
A Mother’s Day Message From the Heart
Her Instagram is a treasure trove of adorable photos of her grandkids and kids. Last year, on Mother’s Day, Kathie Lee posted a touching message about her experience as a mom. "Cody and Cassidy, I am forever grateful to The Lord for choosing me to be your mother," she wrote in a heartfelt caption alongside a photo of her kids in May 2023. "Being your mom has been the greatest joy of my life, and it’s such a blessing to now watch Cassidy prepare for motherhood. To all the mothers out there, I wish you a happy #MothersDay."
