When Kelly Clarkson opened up about using medication to assist with her weight loss journey, it sparked a heated debate. Joy Behar, the ever-outspoken co-host of The View, jumped into the conversation to defend her fellow celebrity.
Diets Don’t Work, According to Joy Behar
On a recent episode of The View, Joy Behar, who's no stranger to sharing her thoughts, passionately defended Kelly Clarkson. Speaking alongside her cohosts Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, and Whoopi Goldberg, Joy made it clear that she believes diets simply don't work. "I've been on diets up and down, up and down. You lose it, then you gain it back," the 81-year-old said, sharing her own personal experiences. Joy emphasized that nobody truly wants to carry extra weight. "It’s uncomfortable, your clothes don’t fit, and everyone wants to lose weight," she added, painting a relatable picture for viewers.
Kelly and Whoopi Discuss Weight Loss on The Kelly Clarkson Show
The day before Joy's comments, Whoopi Goldberg appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show to discuss their respective weight loss journeys. The legendary actress, who starred in Sister Act, admitted to using the type 2 diabetes drug Mounjaro as part of her regimen. Kelly Clarkson, known for hits like "Breakaway," revealed that her doctor had been urging her for years to consider medication that could help her body break down sugar more effectively.

"My doctor chased me for, like, two years and I was like, 'No, I’m afraid of it. I already have thyroid problems.' I was afraid," Kelly confessed to Whoopi after acknowledging that she had reached a high of 203 pounds. She reassured her audience that the medication she was using wasn't Ozempic but something else designed to aid in breaking down sugar. "Obviously, my body doesn’t do it right," she admitted, explaining the necessity of medical intervention.
Whoopi Stands by Kelly Clarkson
During the discussion on The View, Whoopi stood firmly by Kelly's side. "Let people do what they need to do to get where they need to get to, and stop being mad that they’re not doing it your way," the actress from Ghost advised her fellow panelists and the audience. Her message was clear: everyone should have the freedom to pursue their health goals in the way that works best for them, without judgment from others.
Following Kelly's revelation, a source told Life & Style that the former The Voice judge was likely using Liraglutide. "She’s guarding the brand name because she knows it would cause even more interest and to avoid added attention to her," the source explained in a report dated May 14.
However, a separate insider revealed that Kelly was upset about potentially disappointing her fans. "At first she said she started walking more and got on a healthier diet, which everyone gave her props for, but now she’s admitting to taking medication," the insider said. "Her fans feel duped because she totally transformed her body and they were rooting for her. They totally trusted her and now they’re calling her a liar."
Kelly's Journey Beyond Medication
It's important to note that medication wasn't the only factor contributing to Kelly's weight loss. The "Since U Been Gone" singer credited her move to New York City for helping her reach her daily step goals. "Walking in the city is quite the workout," she told People in January. Kelly also shared her enthusiasm for infrared saunas and her recent investment in a cold plunge, explaining, "And I just got a cold plunge because everybody wore me down."
