It’s not every day you catch a glimpse of the legendary Tom Selleck out and about. Recently, the star was spotted walking in Thousand Oaks, California, with visible signs of knee surgery, according to In Touch. The 79-year-old actor looked casual in a black T-shirt and shorts as he left the gym on July 17, showcasing scars on his knees. Cameras caught the outing, capturing him walking to his car and later stopping by a fast-food joint for a quick beverage before driving off. It was a rare public appearance that fans didn’t want to miss.
Tom Selleck’s Farewell to 'Blue Bloods'
Just a few weeks ago, Tom wrapped up filming on the iconic series Blue Bloods, where he played the role of New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan for an impressive 14 seasons. The Emmy-winning actor made it clear that he wasn’t ready to say goodbye to the police procedural drama. In a candid conversation with Town & Country in May, before the show’s cancellation was announced, Tom expressed his frustration and hope for the series.
“I still believe CBS will come to their senses. People aren’t talking about how successful Blue Bloods is—it’s the third highest-rated scripted show in broadcast television,” Tom shared. “We dominate Friday nights and perform exceptionally well on Paramount Plus. The show isn’t declining. I say this not to boast, but to highlight that everyone who works on our show—actors, writers, everyone—deserves that five-star legacy on their resume. CBS isn’t talking about its performance, but I am because everyone needs to know that if the show ends, it will be ending on a high note, just like Magnum did.”

Split Seasons and Life After ‘Blue Bloods’
Season 14 of Blue Bloods was divided into two parts, with the first half airing in February and the second set for September. As this significant chapter of Tom’s career comes to a close, insiders reveal that the Magnum, P.I. star has no plans to slow down anytime soon.
“Rather than relaxing during his time off, Tom is working hard on home repairs, tending to his land, and putting himself in postures that aren’t exactly ideal for someone his age and size,” an insider revealed on July 27. “He should take it easy, but he won’t. Tom is lifting, climbing, and tackling most, if not all, of the fix-it jobs himself.”
Life on the Ranch
Tom currently resides on a vast 63-acre ranch in Ventura County, California, with his wife, Jillie Mack. During an appearance on CBS Mornings in May, Tom joked about the financial implications of the ranch following the cancellation of Blue Bloods. “Hopefully, I’ll keep working enough to hold onto this place,” he said. “If I stopped working, would I be set for life? Sure, but maybe not on a 63-acre ranch!”
In the same month, an insider described the avocado ranch as Tom’s “paradise,” but acknowledged that it requires significant upkeep and can be a financial strain. Despite this, Tom remains hopeful that fans will rally to save Blue Bloods. “It doesn’t make sense to Tom that CBS decided to cancel the show,” the source explained. “There are still so many storylines left to explore, and it seems a bit premature. It would be a shame to let it go.”

Tom Selleck’s career has been nothing short of remarkable, and while the end of Blue Bloods marks a significant transition, it’s clear that he’s not ready to step away from the spotlight anytime soon. Whether it’s through new projects or maintaining his beautiful ranch, Tom continues to inspire with his dedication and passion.
