Fans of "Good Bones" felt a pang of nostalgia when the series wrapped up its final episode on October 17, 2023. After nearly a decade, viewers had grown attached to the dynamic cast, especially designer MJ Coyle. Little did they know, MJ's story was far from over. In this article, we'll explore what happened to MJ after "Good Bones," where he is now, and his exciting return to HGTV.
MJ Coyle's Start on 'Good Bones'
MJ Coyle joined the Two Chicks and a Hammer team at a pivotal moment, during the filming of the end of season 3 and the beginning of season 4 of "Good Bones." His first day on set was nothing short of memorable. Working alongside Mina Starsiak Hawk and Karen E. Laine, MJ quickly realized he was stepping into a whirlwind of personality and creativity.
During an episode of Mina’s podcast on October 24, 2023, MJ recounted his chaotic first day. "In typical Mina fashion, Karen was already there, ready to give me an earful," MJ laughed. "Then Mina walked in with a paper towel full of hard-boiled eggs. I thought to myself, 'This woman is completely unhinged! Who brings hard-boiled eggs anywhere?' But that's the charm of working with such unique personalities," he added, fondly remembering the quirks that made the show so special.

Throughout his time on the show, MJ contributed his artistic flair to countless renovations, always bringing a fresh perspective to interior design. While it seemed like he was having the time of his life, MJ revealed the behind-the-scenes tension during the show's final season.
“By the time we reached the last season, our small team was just exhausted,” MJ explained. “We had been through so much—COVID, multiple seasons—and everyone was burnt out. It was tough, but we managed to push through, creating something truly memorable despite the challenges.”
MJ Coyle’s Current Adventures
After wrapping up season 8 of "Good Bones," MJ's life took a new turn. He decided to step away from Two Chicks and a Hammer to focus on his own interior design business, MJ Coyle Home. This decision marked a significant chapter in his career, allowing him to fully express his creativity and passion for design.

Outside of work, MJ cherishes his time with his husband, Andrew Merkley. While he hasn't kept in touch with many of his "Good Bones" co-stars since the show ended, MJ has maintained a friendly relationship with Mina.
“I haven’t spoken to Cory Miller or Tad Starsiak in a while,” MJ admitted during the podcast. “I did briefly talk to Mina’s mom when everything wrapped up, but I think everyone needed some space and time to heal after such an intense experience.”
In December 2023, MJ shared a heartwarming post on Instagram, sitting in front of Mina’s new lake house. The caption read, “Just two old friends sitting by a lake talking about faucets and river rocks!” Fans couldn’t help but wonder what the future held for this dynamic duo.
