Julie Andrews Says She'd Be Open to 'Princess Diaries 3' But 'It

Hey there, movie fans! If you've been eagerly waiting for The Princess Diaries 3, it seems like you might have to hang tight a little longer. Legendary actress Julie Andrews, who played the iconic Queen Clarisse Renaldi in the beloved franchise, has shared her thoughts on why now might not be the perfect time to bring this royal story back to the screen.

Julie Andrews Opens Up About The Princess Diaries 3

During an appearance on The Talk @ Home on April 27, Julie Andrews revealed that while a third installment has been on the table for a while, nothing concrete has come her way yet. "It’s long been talked about, but nothing has sort of landed on my desk or anything like that," she shared. Now, Julie might be a little older and, as she joked, "crotchety," but she's definitely open to revisiting Genovia if the timing feels right.

Julie added, "I think I would. I’m getting awfully old and, well, let’s just say a bit more set in my ways. I’m not sure if it’s the right timing, but I think to work with Annie again would be absolutely delightful. And yeah, sure, I’d be up for it. I just think we should wait—if the script comes in, let's just wait for that."

    Where Does Anne Hathaway Stand?

Now, Anne Hathaway, who plays the charming Mia Thermopolis, has also expressed her enthusiasm for a third movie. Back in January 2019, she told Andy Cohen that a script had already been completed during an episode of Watch What Happens Live. But when Andy mentioned this to Julie in October 2019, Julie was surprised. "I haven’t heard [there’s a script finished]," Julie admitted. "There’s been talk about [a third movie] for quite a while now."

Julie went on to explain, "I think [Anne’s] having a second child. She’s busy, and I’ve been busy too. If it happens, it would be absolutely wonderful, and if it doesn’t, well, I wouldn’t have known anyway, so there you go." Clearly, both actresses are open to the idea, but life and schedules seem to be in the way for now.
