Hoda Kotb, the ever-charismatic 60-year-old co-host of the “Today” show, recently appeared on The Jamie Kern Lima Show, where she opened up about her dating life, her aspirations for the next chapter of her life, and her experiences as a mom. During a two-part episode, host Jamie Kern Lima brought up Hoda’s recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, where she mentioned gearing up for a third date with a guy.
In the second part of the episode, which aired on Tuesday, August 20, Hoda revealed that she did go on the third date, but decided to take a step back. "This person is a lovely human being, but they have a lot of things they’re working through," she explained. "At this stage in my life, I’m really looking for simplicity. I’ve spent so much of my life trying to fix things, but sometimes you realize that maybe it’s time to pause that instinct."

Hoda went on to explain that everything with the guy has been "beautifully tabled," and there was no drama or bad blood when she decided to end things. "It wasn’t anything funky that happened," she reassured her fans. "He’s very cute, by the way—extremely handsome." She even promised to show Jamie a photo of the mystery man after the episode, before concluding that their relationship is "tabled for now."
When asked if there was anyone new in her life, Hoda laughed and said, "No, not yet. Not yet is always my thing." But she wasn’t just brushing off the question—she took the opportunity to share what she’s looking for in a partner moving forward.
What Hoda Is Looking for in a Partner
Hoda, the author of Hope Is a Rainbow, shared that she’s now focusing on finding someone who adds to her life rather than takes away. "I want someone who’s adding to my life, not subtracting," she said. "When you look at your schedule and how little free time you really have, you want to make sure that when you do have time, you’re spending it with someone who’s in the addition business of their life."
Hoda was previously married to Burzis Kanga from 2005 to 2008. She then dated Joel Schiffman, starting in 2013, and the couple got engaged in 2019. Together, they adopted daughters Haley and Hope, and have continued to co-parent since their breakup in early 2022.

During the same podcast episode, Hoda reflected on why her relationship with Joel didn’t work out. "Joel is one of the best people I know," she said. "He’s a great human being, and I feel like I’m a pretty great human being too, but sometimes two great human beings together just isn’t enough to make it work." She added that she felt like they were "growing at different paces," a common issue that many couples face.
Hoda emphasized that this kind of situation is more common than people might think. "One person’s growing in one direction, and the other person’s growing in another," she explained. "It’s not about blame—it’s just about recognizing that sometimes, people are on different paths."
