Alright, folks, let me set the record straight for you. Jenna Bush Hager is out here, clearing up some confusion about why her wedding ring has been missing from her finger during recent episodes of Today. No, she didn’t lose it or, worse, toss it aside for good. It’s more of a medical issue, and she’s here to explain.
A "Bad Wedding Ring Situation" Explained
On a recent episode of Today With Jenna & Friends, which aired on February 26, Jenna Bush Hager, who’s now 43, made it crystal clear why her ring finger has been ring-free lately. She described it as a “bad wedding ring situation” that’s been going on. “I’m not wearing one now because I broke my finger,” she told viewers with a laugh. “But don’t worry, I’ve seen some of the comments. Henry and I are still very happily married.”
For those who may not know, Jenna has been married to her husband, Henry Hager, since 2008. They’ve built an incredible life together, raising three beautiful kids. So, no need to speculate—this isn’t about their relationship. It’s all about that pesky finger injury.

Going Back to the Start of the Mishap
Now, if you’re curious about how this whole ordeal began, Jenna gave us some backstory during an episode of the show back in August 2024. She explained that her troubles started with a simple, yet unfortunate event—losing her lucky necklace while swimming. And, from there, things spiraled a bit.
“So, I jumped in the ocean and I lost my lucky necklace, OK,” Jenna shared with then-cohost Hoda Kotb. “And since then, some things happened. I tripped, I got a black eye, I broke my ring finger… so some of y’all may be thinking, ‘Is she splitting with the husband?’ No.”
Hoda, who’s now 60, couldn’t help but react when she saw Jenna’s finger. “You broke it?” she asked, taking a closer look at the swollen digit. “Oh, it’s really big, still!”
Jenna chimed in with a little sass, saying, “Yeah, Henry claims I just sprained it, but it was blue!” Hoda, ever the supportive friend, replied, “Well, it’s fractured for sure.”

But breaking her finger wasn’t the only mishap she encountered after losing her necklace. Jenna mentioned that she also ended up with a black eye, adding to her list of injuries. “I have a little black eye,” she pointed out while gesturing to her eye. “All of these things happened right after I lost the necklace.”
Superstition Strikes
Jenna admitted that her 11-year-old daughter, Mila, was the one who brought up the idea of superstition surrounding the necklace. “And I said that to Mila, I said, ‘I’ve had some misfortunes and maybe it’s because I’ve lost my lucky necklace,’ and she said, ‘Well, were you so stressed after you lost the necklace?’ and I said, ‘No!’ Well, not until all the bad things started happening!” Jenna joked.

Despite all these misfortunes, Jenna and Henry’s marriage remains as strong as ever, celebrating 17 years together and raising three wonderful children. Jenna recently joked about her husband, Henry, 46, fancying Today With Jenna & Friends guest cohost Scarlett Johansson, but it turned out to be the opposite. “I thought it was my husband that was going to fall in love with her, but it turns out it was me,” Jenna told People in a February 22 interview after Scarlett joined her on the show.
Jenna also added a new piece of jewelry to her collection when she and Scarlett got their ears pierced together during an episode of Today where the Avengers actress was a guest cohost. “I have a lot of piercings,” Scarlett, 40, said during the episode as she and Jenna sat together at the news desk while two piercers gave them the piercings. “When I was a kid, I just was into piercings, and then I had my eyebrow pierced, my septum, my everything. It was just a thing. And so I think it’s been a minute since I got a piercing, so I’m excited to do it with you.”
