Let’s face it, Tom Selleck isn’t exactly thrilled that 'Blue Bloods' is wrapping up after 14 seasons. The iconic actor has been candid about his feelings, and it’s clear he’s got a lot on his mind. In a recent interview with TV Insider, Tom opened up about the bittersweet emotions tied to the show’s conclusion.
Tom Selleck's Honest Take on the Show's End
“I’ve got to be honest with you—I’m kind of frustrated,” Tom admitted during the interview on Thursday, October 3. “As we wrapped up those last eight episodes, I found myself avoiding conversations about the end of 'Blue Bloods.' Instead, I wanted to focus on how wildly successful the show has been. If you look at the Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024 in terms of total viewers, we ranked No. 9! And if you exclude the three football shows, we’re No. 6! That’s no small feat.”
Tom went on to share his thoughts about staying positive despite the show’s end. “I’m not the type to turn into a bitter old guy yelling, ‘Get off my lawn!’ I don’t believe in holding grudges, but it’s hard not to feel like the show was always taken for granted because it performed so well from the very beginning.”

Splitting the Final Season
The final season of 'Blue Bloods' was split into two parts, with the first half airing back in February and the second half premiering in October. Throughout this process, Tom has been vocal about his desire for the show to continue. “Here’s the thing—if you were to tell a network, ‘We’ve got a show that guarantees you Friday night ratings dominance for the next 15 years, even in a less-than-ideal time slot,’ it’s almost unimaginable that they’d let it go. But that’s where we are,” Tom explained.
His frustration is palpable, but he’s also processing the emotions that come with such a major life change. “So, how do I feel? It’s going to take a long time to sort through all of this,” the Emmy-winning actor confessed. “After shooting the final episode, I remember thinking, ‘I’ve got to get to bed early tonight because I need to prepare my dialogue for Monday.’ And then it hit me—there is no Monday. It’s just going to take some time to sink in.”
Staying Busy on the Ranch
As the second half of season 14 approaches, insiders revealed that Tom is keeping himself busy at his California ranch. “Rather than sitting back and enjoying his time off, Tom’s diving headfirst into ranch work,” a source told Closer in July. “He’s been working up a sweat doing repairs around the house, tending to the land, and pushing himself into positions that a guy his age probably shouldn’t be doing.”
“Tom should be taking it easy, but that’s just not his style. He’s lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, and tackling most, if not all, of the fix-it jobs himself,” the source added. Tom has called this sprawling estate home since 1988, sharing it with his wife, Jillie Mack, and their daughter, Hannah Selleck, who was born in 1987. He also has a son, Kevin Selleck, from his first marriage to Jacqueline Ray.
A New Chapter in Tom Selleck's Career
After 14 years of portraying the beloved Frank Reagan on 'Blue Bloods,' Tom is stepping into a new chapter of his career. “Tom loves acting, but he’s not the hungry young actor he once was. He’s not actively searching for work,” an insider revealed to Closer in January. “If something comes along that excites him, he’ll definitely consider it. But for now, he’s focusing on what makes him happy.”
