Actress Julie Bowen, beloved for her role as Claire Dunphy on Modern Family, recently melted the hearts of fans by sharing a rare photo with two of her children on Instagram. The candid snapshot gave everyone a glimpse into her family life, which, let's face it, doesn't always make it to social media.
A Rare Glimpse Into Family Life
In the post, Julie, now 54, wrote a heartfelt caption: “I actually got to work WITH my kids today (as opposed to FOR them.) Don’t worry. I’m still forbidden to post anything other than the tops of their heads…” The humor in her words reflects the same warmth and wit that fans have come to love from her on-screen persona.
Behind the Scenes with Her Kids
For those who don’t know, Julie shares son Oliver and twins John and Gustave with her ex-husband, Scott Phillips. The couple divorced in 2018 after 14 years of marriage, but clearly, their family bond remains strong. In the photo, Julie is seated between two of her kids on what appears to be a couch inside her trailer on set. The boys are munching on snacks, looking relaxed, while Julie beams with an excited expression. Holding a piece of paper, many fans speculated that it might be a script, adding to the authenticity of the moment.

One fan commented, “Are these the twins she was pregnant with in season 1?” referring to the fact that Julie was pregnant with her twins during the filming of the pilot for Modern Family. It's a fun fact that brings her personal life and professional career together in a unique way.
From Modern Family to New Ventures
Julie's time on Modern Family spanned 11 seasons, and while she was sad to see the show end in April 2020, she’s kept busy with new projects. She's been working on the TV series Hysteria! and is set to star in the highly anticipated Happy Gilmore 2. Fans are eager to see her reprise her role as Virginia Venit alongside Adam Sandler.
One Instagram user even asked, “Are they going to be in Happy Gilmore 2?” referring to Julie's kids. While we don’t have an official answer yet, it’s clear that her children are excited about the project, especially since they're big fans of Adam Sandler.

Julie Talks About Life Post-Modern Family
During an appearance on Today With Hoda & Jenna on September 12, Julie confirmed that her character Virginia Venit and Adam Sandler's character are still together in Happy Gilmore 2. Jenna Bush Hager joked, “Oh, you just told us a spoiler alert!” to which Julie replied with a laugh, “Is that bad? No. That … You can put that … I think I’m allowed to say that!”
When asked about her kids' interest in her work, Julie admitted that they don’t usually enjoy watching her projects. However, they’re making an exception for Happy Gilmore 2. “They’re excited for Happy Gilmore. They love Adam Sandler. They never saw Happy Gilmore 1 but they’re gonna watch Happy Gilmore 2. I don’t understand it,” she joked.
Family Life and Parenting
Julie was also asked about her relationship with her sons and whether they open up to her about their personal lives. She revealed that her boys, like most teenagers, aren’t very forthcoming about their feelings, especially when it comes to relationships. To encourage open communication, she keeps educational books scattered around the house, hoping they’ll stumble upon them. “I have a lot of purposefully scattered about the house books that are informational about sex, drugs, what to avoid, how to not get people pregnant, not get diseases,” she shared.

Despite the lack of face-to-face conversations, Julie stays connected with her kids through Snapchat when she’s working. It’s her way of keeping tabs on them and staying involved in their lives, even from afar.
Summer Memories
Two weeks before her interview, Julie posted some sweet summer memories with her kids. She captioned the post, “The kids go back to school today, and I am FORBIDDEN to post any ‘first day of…’ pictures. Instead, I thought I’d give a quick peek of summer as captured by my oldest son.” It’s a touching reminder of how much she values her family and the little moments they share together.
