Jimmy Kimmel refers to it as "the most delicious charity event of all." Since 2010, the late-night host has been a staunch supporter of L.A. Loves Alex’s Lemonade Stand cookout, an initiative dedicated to fighting childhood cancer. "It's not only a blast with some of the finest chefs in one spot," Jimmy shared with Closer at the October 5 event, attended by his wife, Molly McNearney, and their children, Jane, 10, and Billy, 7, "but they're genuinely making strides—helping families and kids battling cancer. We've faced our share of struggles with our son, so I know firsthand how crucial this cause is."

Jimmy's younger son, Billy, was born with a congenital heart defect. In May, the proud father revealed that Billy, known for his resilience, underwent his third and hopefully final open-heart surgery to replace a heart valve. Jimmy, now 56, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the "miracle workers" at Children's Hospital L.A. "He's doing remarkably well," Jimmy proudly told Closer, pointing to his energetic son. Billy's interests, like many kids his age, include basketball, Olivia Rodrigo, and YouTuber Mr. Beast. A source close to the family shared, "Billy is Jimmy's miracle son. Aside from his health challenges, he's just a regular kid, full of life and spirit."

It's been seven years since Jimmy tearfully recounted the harrowing days following Billy's birth. When Billy was born on April 21, 2017, "a vigilant nurse detected a heart murmur and noticed he was slightly blue," Jimmy recalled. Billy was promptly taken to Children's Hospital L.A., where Dr. Vaughn Starnes performed a life-saving miracle. "The operation was a success," Jimmy added, grateful for the medical team's expertise.

  • Billy was diagnosed with a severe form of tetralogy of Fallot, a condition that affects blood flow through the heart. "This came as a complete surprise. They thought Billy would be perfectly healthy," Dr. Starnes explained to Good Morning America, noting that Jimmy was understandably emotional throughout the ordeal.

Jimmy understands how fortunate his family is. "Walking through this hospital, meeting parents at their most vulnerable moments, seeing children in pain—it's a humbling experience," Jimmy wrote on Instagram in May, urging others to support their local children’s hospitals. "There are countless families who aren't as lucky to go home after just five days," he added, emphasizing the importance of accessible healthcare.

This year, for his birthday, Billy requested donations to the hospital that saved his life. The Kimmel family remains endlessly grateful for their healthy, happy boy. "Billy has taught me to cherish every moment of life," Jimmy told Closer, reflecting on the profound impact his son has had on him.
