For six unforgettable seasons, Reba McEntire lit up our screens with her self-titled sitcom, Reba. Fans fell in love with the quirky Hart family, and when the show wrapped in 2007, it left a void in many hearts. Since then, there's been a lot of buzz about whether the show might return with its original cast. Let's dive into what Reba herself has said about bringing the series back to life. Keep reading to get the full scoop on the possibility of a Reba reboot.
Could 'Reba' Return With the Original Cast?
When Reba premiered back in 2001, it quickly became a Friday night must-watch on The WB. With an ensemble cast that included the likes of Christopher Rich, JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Scarlett Pomers, Mitch Holleman, and Melissa Peterman, the show brought humor and heart to millions of households. Each episode followed the ups and downs of the Hart family, making it relatable and endearing to viewers across the country.

Even though Reba McEntire first made a name for herself in the music world during the '70s, she found a new passion in acting. Playing Reba Hart was more than just a job for her—it was an adventure. In fact, she's been vocal about her desire to revisit the beloved character.

"I’d love to do a reboot of Reba," Reba revealed to Taste of Country Nights in September 2020. "It would be so much fun because there were so many stories we wanted to tell when the show got canceled. We were shocked when it ended because we were doing so well. Now, after all these years, we'd have a ton of new stories to share."
Around the same time, Reba dropped hints on Instagram, sharing a photo of her iconic character alongside lyrics from the show's theme song, "I'm a Survivor." Her fans thought this might signal a comeback. And sure enough, two years later, she confirmed that the idea of rebooting Reba was still alive and well.
"The entire experience was amazing—the cast, the crew, everyone we worked with was incredible," she shared during a chat on Bobby Bones’ radio show in July 2022. "We've talked about getting the gang back together for a reunion, just to have some fun. Hopefully, one day, that dream will come true."
Reba isn't the only one eager for a reunion. Her former co-star, Steve Howey, who played Van Montgomery, is ready to reprise his role whenever Reba gives the green light.
"Absolutely, I'd do it in a heartbeat. When I played Van, I was in my early 20s, so imagine where Van would be now and how the Hart family has grown," Steve told Entertainment Tonight in March 2023. "Reba says, 'Jump,' and I’ll say, 'How high?'”
Steve, best known for his work on Shameless, worked with Reba for six seasons and appeared in over 125 episodes of Reba. Though the show ended, their bond remains strong. Steve even joked about surprising Reba during one of her concerts with a shoutout to his character, Van.

"I was planning on seeing her in concert, and I pitched this whole idea where I'd come out on stage and say, 'Hey, Mrs. H!' But Reba shot it down, saying, 'I don’t have time for that!' I guess I'll just have to settle for cheering from the audience," he laughed.
Is a 'Reba' Reboot Still in the Works?
While fans were optimistic about a quick return, Reba delivered an update in September 2022 during an appearance on Good Morning America. Unfortunately, it seems like the reboot won't happen anytime soon.
"We thought we were getting close to making it happen, but it looks like it's not going to happen right now," Reba admitted. "But we're not giving up. We're still looking for ways to make it work down the line."
Although there isn't currently a reboot of Reba on the horizon, fans got a treat when Reba teamed up with Melissa Peterman for a new project. The two stars reunited for The Hammer, a Lifetime original movie released in 2023. Reba's boyfriend, Rex Linn
