A Night to Remember: Elton John Shines at NYC Film Festival Premiere
Let me tell you, it was quite the evening in the Big Apple. Legendary musician Elton John, who’s been going through a tough health battle lately, made a rare public appearance at the New York Film Festival premiere of Elton John: Never Too Late. Joined by his loving husband, David Furnish, Elton graced the red carpet on October 1, proving that even in the face of adversity, his spirit remains unbreakable.
Now, picture this: Elton, 77 years old and still rocking it, sat comfortably in a chair as he posed for photos with David, 61, and the documentary's co-director, R.J. Cutler. That night wasn’t just about the film—it was a celebration of Elton’s incredible journey. The legendary "Tiny Dancer" singer took to the stage to perform his timeless hit for the audience, showcasing that his music still has the power to move hearts. And if that wasn’t enough, he also opened up about his recent health struggles, sharing some deeply personal thoughts.
Elton Opens Up About His Health: "There’s Not Much of Me Left"
Elton didn’t shy away from addressing the elephant in the room. In a heartfelt speech, he shared a candid moment with the audience, saying, “To be honest with you, there’s not much of me left. I’ve had my tonsils, adenoids, appendix, prostate, right hip, left knee, and right knee removed. In fact, the only thing left to me is my left hip.”

But here’s the thing: despite all he’s been through, Elton remains grateful and optimistic. He went on to say, “But I’m still here. And I can’t thank you [enough], you’re the people that made me. I want to thank David and Zachary and Elijah for making me the happiest man in the world.” That’s the kind of resilience and gratitude we all need more of in life.
A Heartfelt Tribute to Family: The Source of Elton’s Strength
Elton didn’t stop there when it came to expressing his love and appreciation for his family. Throughout the evening, he made sure to shower his loved ones with praise. “I found complete and utter happiness and bliss when I met David and when I had my children, our children,” he said. “And it satisfied me so much. I’ve never felt happiness like I have now.”
It’s clear that family is at the core of Elton’s life. Even as he continues to navigate his health journey, his bond with David, Zachary, and Elijah keeps him grounded and inspired. “As you know, I decided to stop touring because I’m 77 years of age, I’ve done all there is to do, to play. I’ve succeeded. I’ve been there and I’ve done it,” he explained, referencing his final Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, which wrapped up in Stockholm in July 2023.
But Elton isn’t done with music just yet. “I’ve still got to make room because I’m still going to have music in my life,” he added. “But the most important thing in my life are David, Zachary and Elijah, and my family and my friends. I found utopia and I’m so thrilled.”

Elton’s Recent Health Update: A Severe Eye Infection
Elton’s recent appearance comes after he shared news of a severe eye infection on September 3. In an Instagram post, he revealed, “Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye.” He assured fans that he’s healing but emphasized that the recovery process is slow. “I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.”
Elton expressed gratitude for his medical team and family, saying, “I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks.” He also mentioned spending the summer quietly recuperating at home, feeling optimistic about his progress. However, an insider revealed to Closer in September that Elton’s been leaning on those around him for support. “Elton refuses to be seen as weak,” the source said. “He’s so determined to maintain his larger-than-life image — but the truth is he can hardly move without help!”
