Life after "Good Bones" hasn't been the same for Mina Starsiak Hawk. Since wrapping up the original run of the beloved HGTV show after eight seasons, Mina has been reflecting on her journey and sharing her thoughts with fans. It's like saying goodbye to an old friend—it’s bittersweet but full of memories.

Recently, during a Q&A session on her Instagram Stories, a fan asked, “Do you miss filming Good Bones?” Mina didn’t hold back, diving deep into her feelings about the show that shaped so much of her life.

From Her Twenties to Her Forties: A Journey with 'Good Bones'

“I grew up making Good Bones,” Mina, now 39, replied. She started her journey on the show in her twenties, and as she prepares to turn 40 this year, she acknowledges that most of her adult life has been intertwined with the show. It's hard to imagine a career without it when it's been such a defining part of her life.

Her response didn’t stop there. Mina elaborated, “I miss the real work—the fun, the pranks, the amazing relationships, and the experiences I got to have that I never would have had if not for the show. 100% I miss it.” It’s clear that 'Good Bones' wasn't just a job for her; it was a passion, a community, and a way of life.

The Final Goodbye... Or Was It?

Season 8: A Bittersweet Farewell

In October 2023, Mina and her mom, Karen E. Laine, waved goodbye to 'Good Bones' season 8, which they initially deemed the final season. It was a season filled with personal milestones, including the renovation of Mina’s brother Tad Starsiak’s new home and his engagement. It felt like the perfect way to bring the curtain down on a successful run.

A Surprising Comeback

However, HGTV had other plans. In August, the network announced a special three-part season for 'Good Bones,' surprising fans and the cast alike. This unexpected return gave Mina and Karen a chance to reconnect with the show and its fans in a new way.

Life in the Special Season

In the first episode of the special season, viewers were treated to a glimpse of Mina working on her new lake house with her husband, Steve Hawk, alongside some familiar faces from previous seasons. It was a nostalgic trip down memory lane, showcasing the evolution of Mina's life beyond the show.

The second and third episodes focused on Karen, who took on the challenge of renovating her new house in Wilmington, North Carolina. Interestingly, Karen has since put the home up for sale, marking another chapter in her post-'Good Bones' journey.

The Rift That Shook the Cast

Before the season 8 finale, Mina revealed on her "Mina AF" podcast that she was embroiled in a rift with her mom and brother Tad. She explained that tensions between her and Karen reached a boiling point during the filming of the eighth season.

“There were definitely some challenging moments because my mom and I were in some of the most challenging places I felt we’ve been,” Mina told People in September 2023. It was a tough period, but it also highlighted the raw emotions and real-life challenges that came with working so closely with family.

Separate Projects, Separate Paths

During the special three-part season this summer, Mina and Karen didn’t interact in any scenes. Instead, they focused on their respective projects in different states, giving fans a chance to see each of them shine independently.

Strained Relationships Behind the Scenes

Mina also revealed that her relationship with 'Good Bones' co-star Cory Miller had soured. “So, there’s been enough questions about Cory that I’m going to try to address this in a respectful way again, understanding that I have a platform that he maybe doesn’t have,” Mina said during a podcast episode in December 2023. “Cory and I are not on speaking terms. I am positive that there are things he feels like I did to him, and I have known him since he was 11, and I’ve always had a soft spot for him.”

Designer MJ Coyle also chimed in on the strained dynamics of the cast during season 8. “It got to the point that our small team, at that point, we weren’t even enjoying each other’s company,” MJ said during an October 2023 appearance on Mina’s podcast. “We got through COVID, we got through all of these things, we got through all of these seasons and everyone was just very burnt out. Everyone was sore. Everyone was miserable.”
