For Erin Napier, home is more than just four walls—it’s the heart of her life. The beloved host of "Home Town" recently spilled the beans on what she and her husband, Ben Napier, keep on their nightstands in their cozy Laurel, Mississippi, house. This little peek into their personal space offers a fascinating glimpse into their personalities and shared history.
Erin's Nightstand: Neat, Practical, and Thoughtful
During an episode of Southern Living’s “Biscuits & Jam” podcast on October 17, Erin, 38, gave listeners a tour of her nightstand. It’s a place where practicality meets sentimentality. “My nightstand has a neat stack of a few books, has my ear plugs and a little porcelain holder,” she explained. “It’s got my little noise maker and a journal, and it has the baby monitor, and that’s it.”
Her nightstand is a reflection of her organized nature, a space where she keeps everything she needs close at hand. Whether it's her journal for jotting down thoughts or her earplugs for a peaceful night's sleep, Erin's nightstand is a testament to her practical approach to life.

Ben's Nightstand: A Tale of Chaos and Charm
While Erin keeps her side of the bedroom tidy, Ben’s nightstand tells a different story. According to Erin, it’s a treasure trove of randomness. “It’s like 20 books, broken screws, keys to something no one knows what, Duke University pencils he’s very superstitious about,” she said with a laugh. “If he is going to use a pencil, it must be a Duke University pencil because that’s what he did in high school. When he would [get] the best grades on his tests, it would be [because] the Duke pencils did better.”
This eclectic collection on Ben’s nightstand reveals a lot about his personality. It’s not just clutter; it’s a snapshot of his life, his quirks, and his cherished memories. Erin admires this side of her husband, seeing it as a reflection of his youthful spirit.
Appreciating the Chaos
Though Erin admitted Ben’s side of the bedroom could get a bit messy, she doesn’t mind. In fact, she loves it. “You see his superstition in his boyishness,” she reflected. “He’s a 40-year-old man, but you see what a boy he really is on his nightstand, which I love. I love that.”
For Erin, the quirks and chaos of Ben’s side of the room are endearing. They remind her of the man she fell in love with and the life they’ve built together.
A Tornado That Changed Everything
Erin, who shares daughters Helen and Mae with Ben, also recounted a harrowing experience that deepened her appreciation for their home. During a 2019 storm, the family faced a tornado that tore through their town. “Helen was almost 2, and the tornado siren started going off. We knew bad weather was coming,” she recalled. “I said, ‘Well, we’ll go get in the closet under the stairs right there,’ and as soon as we got in and closed the door, we could feel the house move. It felt alive in a way that really scared me.”

After the storm passed, Erin and Ben surveyed the damage. “We didn’t have power, and the front windows in our living room had been busted out by debris,” she continued. “The Christmas tree was a mess. The ornaments — a lot of them got broken — and Helen was like, ‘What happened?’ She wasn’t exactly scared, but she knew something serious had happened.”

Despite the destruction, Erin and Ben were grateful. “We were sad to see many historic houses in the neighborhood sustain damage,” Erin admitted. “Still, we’re thankful because it could have been worse.”
