It’s been a year since the world lost Suzanne Somers to breast cancer, and her husband of 46 years, producer Alan Hamel, still carries her memory with him every single day. At 88 years old, Alan opens up about how much Suzanne meant to him. "Suzanne and I were inseparable," he shares. "We hugged constantly, and every night before bed, we held hands. In the mornings, I’d wake up just a few minutes before her, and I’d lie there staring at her beautiful face, soaking in every detail. It’s something I’ll never forget."

A Love Story That Started on Set

Theirs was a love story that began in 1969 on the set of the TV show The Anniversary Game. Suzanne worked as a prize model, while Alan served as the host. "I remember looking across the stage and seeing this incredible woman," Alan recalls. "She was the most beautiful person I’d ever seen—inside and out. From that moment, I knew she was special, and I was determined to get to know her better." Their connection was instant, and it only grew stronger over the years.

Through Thick and Thin

Like any couple, Alan and Suzanne had their fair share of disagreements over the years. But through it all, their love remained the foundation of their relationship. "We had our fights, sure," Alan admits, "but we always came back to that deep, passionate love we had for each other. After one particularly tough argument, Suzanne looked at me and said, ‘No matter how bad it gets, let’s promise never to break up.’ And we didn’t. We stuck together through everything."

Now, a year after Suzanne’s passing, Alan finds himself reflecting on the life they built together. "There’s not a day that goes by where I don’t miss her," he says. "She was my partner in every sense of the word. We shared so much—our dreams, our fears, our triumphs, and our struggles. Even though she’s gone, I carry her love with me. It’s what keeps me going." Alan’s words serve as a testament to the power of true love and the lasting impact it leaves on those who experience it.
