A Longstanding Partnership Both Professionally and Personally
For nearly two decades, Mika, 57, and Joe, 61, have shared the screen and the stage on Morning Joe. Their journey together began in 2007, and they solidified their bond with a private wedding ceremony at the National Archives in Washington, D.C., in 2018. Both bring a wealth of life experience to their partnership, as each has children from previous marriages.
Mika’s daughters, Emilie and Carlie, are from her previous marriage to Jim Hoffer. Joe’s family includes Joey and Andrew, his children with first ex-wife Melanie Hinton, and Kate and Jack, whom he shares with his second ex-wife, Susan Waren. Together, Mika and Joe navigate the complexities of blended families while maintaining a successful professional relationship.
Taking Love Seriously and Finding Fulfillment
Mika’s advice to those seeking meaningful connections is both practical and heartfelt. “If your dreams include having a family—and remember, you don’t have to have those dreams—it’s essential to invest time and effort into building a strong, positive connection,” she advises. “Finding the right person can be challenging, but it’s definitely possible. And don’t rush; you have more time than you might think. Most importantly, take love seriously and approach it with the same dedication you bring to other areas of your life.”
Neither Mika nor Joe shy away from discussing the challenges of maintaining a successful marriage while working in the high-pressure world of television. Before their wedding, Joe admitted that he and Mika "still fight a lot," but they've learned how to address their differences constructively. “For me, the mistake was always being driven at work but passive-aggressive at home,” Joe explained to People in 2017. “That really hurt me in past relationships. With Mika, we’ve learned that if there’s a problem, we put it on the table immediately. If it gets ugly, it gets ugly. But we fight through it.”
Joe adds that they always make sure to resolve any issues before heading to work. “We always knew we had to take care of things by 6 a.m. the next morning,” he said. “Mika has the worst poker face in the history of television. If she goes on the air angry with me, everyone will know. So, we can’t go to sleep mad at each other.”
