At the heart of HGTV’s Fixer to Fabulous lies a family affair. The show’s dynamic duo, Dave and Jenny Marrs, bring their passion for home renovation to life with the help of an incredible team. Among them is a father-son duo, Chase Looney and his dad, Joe Looney. Together, they bring their carpentry skills and a lifetime of memories to the forefront of each project. Let’s dive deeper into who Joe Looney is and the role he plays in making this series a hit. Keep reading to uncover the story behind this beloved craftsman.
Who Is Joe Looney, and How Did He Become Part of 'Fixer to Fabulous'?
Joe Looney is more than just a carpenter on Fixer to Fabulous; he’s a former firefighter who traded in his uniform for a toolbelt. Joining the show alongside his son Chase, Joe brought decades of carpentry knowledge and experience to the table. Chase, a second-generation firefighter, decided to take a break from firefighting to explore his love for carpentry. The skills he learned from his dad proved invaluable as the two worked side by side on the series since its 2017 debut. Dave and Jenny quickly recognized their talent and welcomed them with open arms.
Chase’s relationship with his dad is nothing short of inspiring. In a heartfelt Instagram post from July 2020, Chase reflected on their lifelong bond. “For as long as I can remember, I have been by your side,” he wrote. “From the age of 8 to now, it’s always been you and me—whether at the job site or the fire department. I remember you taking me to calls in your Fire Chief truck and spending countless hours hanging out in your office at the fire station. Those moments shaped who I am today.”

Together, Joe and Chase have crafted some of the most stunning custom furniture pieces and renovations on the show. Although Chase hasn’t appeared on the series since November 2022, fans continue to adore the Looney family’s contributions. Dave himself has formed a close bond with Joe, evident in a touching moment from May 2020 when Joe surprised his daughter Charlotte with a miniature horse for her birthday.
Dave shared this heartwarming video on Facebook, captioning it, “This is the Joe Looney I know and love. You all see him agreeing with @jennymarrs on Fixer to Fabulous. But I know him as a kind, generous man who will do anything for kids and animals! Thanks for making a little girl’s dream come true yesterday, Joe!”
What Happened to Joe Looney on 'Fixer to Fabulous'?
One of the most memorable moments involving Joe occurred during a December 2021 episode of Fixer to Fabulous. Dave and Jenny undertook the renovation of the Bella Vista Animal Shelter in Arkansas, where Joe adopted a dog named Spirit. This poignant moment came shortly after the passing of his beloved dog, Lucky, whom he had promised never to replace. But Spirit had other plans. “She said, ‘Take me home.’ And I said, ‘OK,’” Joe revealed during the episode.
While Chase seems to have returned to his firefighting duties, Joe hasn’t announced any plans to leave the show. In fact, he expressed his love for the series in a September 2022 interview with San Antonio Magazine. “I really enjoy watching a project come together,” he shared. “I especially like working on really old houses—they’re much more of a challenge. Dave, Jenny, and Chase joke that I was probably around when these houses were built!”
