In an exclusive video interview with Closer, actor Chris Carmack shares the moment he finally stopped feeling like the “new guy” on the long-running hit show, Grey’s Anatomy. With a career spanning over two decades, Carmack dives into his journey on the show and how he’s now more comfortable than ever.

Chris Carmack’s Journey on Grey’s Anatomy

Chris Carmack, who plays the role of Dr. Atticus "Link" Lincoln, has been a part of Grey’s Anatomy for seven seasons now. In a candid conversation with Closer, the 43-year-old actor reveals that it wasn’t until this season that he finally felt like he belonged. “I’ve been on the show for seven years now, and this is the first year I haven’t felt like the new guy,” he shares, adding that this transformation has been a gradual process. Chris, who is married to Erin Slaver, also discusses their partnership with Autotrader to promote their Private Seller Exchange, a marketplace designed to make buying and selling used cars easier and safer.

Why Did It Take So Long?

When asked why it took so long to feel fully integrated, Chris explains, “Grey’s Anatomy has such a deep and rich history, and stepping into that world was a bit overwhelming at first.” He goes on to say that working alongside actors who have been on the show since the beginning, and with crew members who have been there since day one, set high standards. “These people are incredibly talented and know exactly what they’re doing. It was a little intimidating to walk into that environment, but it also pushed me to grow as an actor,” he recalls.

Chris admits that joining the show was nerve-wracking at first, but over time, he’s transitioned into a role where he helps newcomers adjust. “When I first started, I was in the same position as the new actors are now. It was scary, but it also inspired me to help them feel more comfortable,” he explains. Chris shares that he now takes the time to guide new cast members, offering advice such as being prepared and understanding the show’s unique culture. “It’s all about learning the ropes and embracing the incredible energy of Grey’s Anatomy,” he adds.

    Chris Carmack’s Partnership with Autotrader

Beyond Grey’s Anatomy, Chris has been busy with other projects, including a partnership with Autotrader. The platform’s Private Seller Exchange aims to revolutionize the way people buy and sell used cars. Chris explains, “We wanted to help raise awareness about this service because it’s so convenient and secure. It’s like having the protection of a dealership but with the flexibility of private selling.” To promote the service, Chris and Erin took to social media, sharing a fun compilation of their best pranks. “It’s been a great way to connect with our fans and show them a lighter side of us,” he says.

    Life Beyond Acting

Chris and Erin have been active on social media for the past couple of years, sharing everything from music to fun marriage videos. However, their focus shifted when they welcomed their second child, daughter Cielle Estee, in 2022. “Music had to take a backseat for a while, but we’ve found new ways to engage with our audience,” Chris explains. He adds that they’ve been selective about the brands they partner with, ensuring they align with their values. “When a reputable brand like Autotrader approached us, we were thrilled. They genuinely care about their customers, and that’s something we can get behind,” he says.

Chris also shares that he’s been exploring options for a new used car and has been checking out Autotrader. “They’ve made the process so much easier and safer. It’s not like showing up to a dark alley with a bag of cash anymore. Their system vets buyers and sellers, ensuring a smooth transaction,” he explains. “We’re excited to partner with them and even created a fun reel about surprises, which we think our fans will enjoy.”
