Cake Boss star Buddy Valastro is making headlines for all the right reasons. The beloved baker has been turning heads with his impressive weight loss journey, and he recently shared a heartwarming photo with his wife, Lisa Valastro, to mark his father-in-law's 70th birthday. Let's dive into the details and see how Buddy managed to make such a remarkable change in his life.
Happy Birthday to the Family Pillar
Sharing a touching moment, Buddy, now 47, celebrated his father-in-law's milestone birthday with a post on Instagram. In the photo, Buddy and Lisa are seen beaming with joy as they celebrate this special occasion. Buddy's caption beautifully expressed his admiration for his father-in-law: "Celebrating my father-in-law’s 70th Birthday. You’ve been such a cornerstone of our family, always leading with love, wisdom, and strength. Here’s to celebrating seven incredible decades and many more to come. We love you! #HappyBirthday #MilestoneBirthday #70YearsYoung."
Turning Point: A Journey of Self-Discovery
About a year ago, Buddy opened up about the challenges that led him to make some significant lifestyle changes. It all started with a bowling accident that injured his right hand, requiring five surgeries. While recovering, Buddy realized it was time to take control of his health. "During COVID, I gained so much weight," he confessed to Fox News Digital in November 2023. "I woke up one day and… I didn’t feel right. I was just too heavy." At that moment, Buddy knew he needed to make a change.

His determination paid off, and he managed to lose an impressive 40 pounds. "I drank a lot of water and did intermittent fasting," Buddy shared about his weight loss methods. "But now it’s been about a year and a half, two years, and I feel good. And I’m at a weight that I like — so thank God." His journey wasn't just about shedding pounds; it was about embracing a healthier lifestyle.

Balance: Indulgence and Discipline
As fans of Cake Boss know, Buddy is no stranger to crafting mouthwatering desserts in his bakeries. Despite his profession, Buddy has found a way to maintain balance in his diet. Sharing kids Sofia, Buddy Jr., Marco, and Carlo, he admitted that he occasionally indulges in a treat. "Listen, I’m never going to live in a world where I’m not going to have a cookie or a slice of pizza," he told the outlet. "I mean, that’s just not living to me. But I don’t have to eat a pie. So if I order a pizza at lunchtime, it’s a slice. It would not be more."
Buddy shared his strategy for maintaining his weight: "I cheat on the weekends. I’m better during the week… I don’t eat after 6 [p.m.] unless I’m on vacation or just away. When I’m away, then I’ll cheat. I’ll gain two, three pounds, and then I take it off. So I’m just trying to maintain [now]."
Lessons Learned: Slow and Steady Wins the Race
Buddy also discussed his weight loss journey in an April 2023 interview with People. "It took me nine months to lose weight, and I’ve been maintaining it now because I lost it nice and slow. It wasn’t a crash diet or anything like that," the New Jersey native explained. "I just tried to be more disciplined during the week."
Reflecting on his upbringing, Buddy noted, "Growing up in an old-fashioned Italian house, you didn’t eat until you were full, you eat until you couldn’t even move. And you were gorged. And that’s the way I would eat all the time. And once I started to shrink my stomach and stop when it’s time to stop, you feel better."
