Let me tell you a story about Jennifer Love Hewitt, a mom who found herself stepping into the role of teacher for her kids during the pandemic. During a candid video chat with the cohosts of "The Talk," Jennifer shared her experience with homeschooling her 6-year-old daughter Autumn and 4-year-old son Atticus. It wasn’t exactly smooth sailing at first, but she learned some valuable lessons along the way.
From Frustration to Finding Her Groove
At first, Jennifer was feeling pretty overwhelmed by the whole homeschooling thing. She appeared on "The Talk@Home" back on April 6, 2020, and spilled the beans about her initial struggles. “I was so frustrated at the beginning, honestly,” she admitted. “I just couldn’t figure out whether I was supposed to teach them exactly the way their teacher does, or if I needed to be super strict, or if I should do something completely different.”

A Helping Hand Makes All the Difference
Things started to change when a friend gave Jennifer some advice that really resonated with her. During her chat with Sharon Osbourne, Marie Osmond, Carrie Ann Inaba, Sheryl Underwood, and Eve, she explained, “My friend said, ‘Look, this is your chance to teach your kids in your own way. Nobody’s doing things the way they normally would right now.’” That little nugget of wisdom was exactly what Jennifer needed to hear.

Adapting to a New Normal
Let’s face it, the world turned upside down when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Schools shut down, and social distancing became the norm. Suddenly, millions of moms like Jennifer were thrust into the role of teacher. It wasn’t easy, but they had to figure it out. Jennifer decided to take the pressure off and make learning fun for her kids.
“The goal is for them to laugh, have fun, and, oh yeah, learn something along the way,” she said with a smile. “We’ve made it our own thing, and it’s working. My daughter even told me the other day, ‘Mom, do you think you could come and be my teacher at school when all this is over?’ That meant the world to me.”
