On December 13, the iconic show 'Blue Bloods' wrapped up its long-running series with a heartfelt and emotional finale. Familiar faces gathered around the Reagan family dinner table to celebrate and reminisce. However, one beloved character, Abigail Baker, portrayed by Abigail Hawk, was notably absent from the scene. In a candid interview with Spectrum News on New Year's Eve, Abigail Hawk, now 43, shared her thoughts on why fans cherished the show and the characters so deeply.
Why Fans Loved 'Blue Bloods'
Abigail Hawk spoke passionately about what made 'Blue Bloods' resonate with so many viewers. "Well, I think they’re people. I think that people can see themselves in these roles," she told reporter Shannan Ferry. "These are sisters and brothers and friends and moms and dads, and I think the family dinner is something that we all yearn for." Hawk went on to emphasize how the show captured the essence of real-life family dynamics, making it relatable to audiences everywhere.
Encouraging Meaningful Conversations
She further explained, "Life is very busy for all of us, probably too busy for most of us, and I just feel like it encourages those conversations, that true dialogue, which I feel like is kind of starting to be remiss in our culture." In a world where disagreements often lead to division, Hawk believes that the show fostered an environment where differing opinions could coexist peacefully. "We’re not willing to have disagreeing or dissenting opinions anymore, and I think that dialogue is important," she added.

Why Abigail Baker Wasn't at the Final Dinner
When asked by Shannan Ferry why her character wasn't present at the final family dinner, Abigail Hawk joked about her willingness to contribute in any way possible. "Yeah, Bob Clohessy and I, Sid Gormley—if you’re ever on Jeopardy! anyone watching, you can use that if it’s ever a Jeopardy! question because we were the only two that didn’t make it to family dinner," she explained. "I would have washed dishes. I would have done anything. I would have shopped for the roast, not that I would have had any idea what I was doing because I wouldn’t have."
Despite her absence, Hawk expressed her desire to be part of the final scene. "But I would’ve done anything, and I wasn’t there," she continued. "I would have taken a mixology course. I would have done anything," she said, humorously referencing her character's reputation for bar fights. "Baker was more known for bar fights, wasn’t she?"
Fans React to Abigail Baker's Absence
Not surprisingly, fans took notice of Abigail Baker's absence and expressed their disappointment. In the comments section of the post, one viewer humorously suggested, "We need to resurrect the show so Baker and Gormley can come to family dinner." This reaction highlights the strong connection fans felt with the characters and their desire to see every member of the Reagan family represented in the series finale.
Final Family Dinner Highlights
The final family dinner was filled with memorable moments, including Jamie Reagan and Eddie Janko-Reagan's announcement that they were expecting their first child. However, viewers were also disappointed to find that Maria Baez was missing from the dinner table after Danny Reagan asked her out for pizza. Showrunner Kevin Wade addressed this omission in an interview with Deadline on December 13. "Honestly, it didn’t really come to the forefront," Wade explained. "Because at the end of their last scene together, there was a hint of a whiff of a promise that they were going to leave that squad and go off to dinner and end up at one or the other’s house, yes. But it felt like a big leap, with only two minutes left, after 14 years, to introduce them like that at the dinner."
Wade went on to compare the development of Danny and Maria's relationship to Jamie and Eddie's storyline in Season 8. "We’ve done it in Season 8 with Jamie and Eddie, and it felt like we had plenty of tarmac to get there," he said. "This would have been a little too quick, I think. To me, it was just too fast. But that’s one of those things that I said before. Here’s what you can imagine in the future. If you love the show, feel free to draw it for yourself. We just left little, little crumbs there."
