At the 2020 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, the cast of Netflix's hit series The Crown had some interesting things to say about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepping back from their royal duties. When a reporter asked Helena Bonham Carter and Josh O'Connor what they thought the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should do next, Helena simply shrugged and replied, “I have no idea.”
Josh O'Connor Chimes In With Words of Encouragement
Josh, who plays Prince Charles on The Crown, jumped in with a more optimistic take. “I think they could probably do anything. They’re incredibly talented and can probably pursue whatever they want,” he said confidently. Josh's response highlighted the belief that Harry and Meghan are more than capable of carving out a new path for themselves outside of their traditional royal roles.
Helena Bonham Carter Agrees Wholeheartedly
Helena, who portrays Princess Margaret on the Netflix series, echoed her costar’s sentiments. “Absolutely, I think the world is their oyster,” she enthusiastically added. “It’ll be very intriguing to see what they decide to do next. But now they’re the captains of their own ship, and I wish them all the luck in the world!” Her comment reflected a sense of admiration for the couple's decision to forge their own destiny.

"Harry can’t wait to leave the U.K.," an insider revealed to Closer Weekly. "He’s already hosted a small farewell gathering with close friends in London and is incredibly excited about starting over as ‘a normal person.’" Despite the challenges of the past few weeks, Harry remains undeterred and is eagerly looking forward to reuniting with Meghan and their son, Archie, in Canada.
Queen Elizabeth's Support for the Couple
Adding to the positive atmosphere surrounding Harry and Meghan's decision, Queen Elizabeth herself has expressed her support. After convening an emergency meeting with her family, she stated that she has no issues with the couple's choice to strike out on their own. In a public statement released on January 18, the 93-year-old monarch shared, “Following many months of conversations and more recent discussions, I am pleased that together we have found a constructive and supportive way forward for my grandson and his family.”
She continued, “Harry, Meghan, and Archie will always be much loved members of my family.” It’s truly heartwarming to know that Harry and Meghan have such unwavering support from both their family and the public as they embark on this new chapter in their lives.
