When news broke that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were moving to North America, it sent shockwaves through the royal family. But amidst all the chaos, there's one member who seems to understand their decision: Sarah Ferguson. According to an insider, the Duchess of York, 60, not only gets where the couple is coming from but is fully behind them.
“Fergie totally supports Harry and Meghan’s decision to relocate to North America and can’t blame them for making the move,” an insider close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed exclusively to Closer Weekly. The couple made their official announcement on January 8, stepping back as senior members of Queen Elizabeth’s royal family. This source added, “She always had a soft spot for Meghan.”
Why Fergie Understands Their Choice

The insider also addressed rumors suggesting that Fergie's daughters, Princess Beatrice, 31, and Princess Eugenie, 29, would take over Harry, 35, and Meghan’s former royal responsibilities. This isn’t the case, according to the source. “Beatrice and Eugenie have already offered to help with Harry’s duties, but it’s more of a polite gesture,” the royal insider explained to Closer. “The queen isn’t planning to allocate all of these responsibilities to the sisters. Fergie is also concerned about Bea’s stress levels and is trying to help her relax.”

“Beatrice has a lot on her plate right now,” the source continued. “She’s dealing with the scandal surrounding her dad, Prince Andrew, as well as planning her own royal wedding to fiancé Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. While she puts on a brave front, deep down, she’s feeling overwhelmed.”
Previous Support for the Sussexes
This isn’t the first time Sarah Ferguson has spoken up in support of the Sussexes. Around late last year, Fergie quickly came to the couple’s defense after Meghan, 38, and Harry — who tied the knot in May 2018 and welcomed son Archie Harrison, 8 months, in May 2019 — opened up about the struggles of living in the public eye in the documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey.
“I know what Meghan is going through,” Fergie candidly confessed to Vogue Arabia in December 2019. “It must be hard for Meghan, and I can relate to her.”
