Let’s face it, folks—Jennifer Aniston is having a moment. The 50-year-old actress stepped onto the red carpet for the 2020 SAG Awards looking like she was ready to take the night by storm. This look stood out from her earlier appearance at the Golden Globes, where she opted for a classic black dress. Change is good, right?
Could This Be Jennifer Aniston's Big Night?
Here’s the deal: Jen’s been nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for her role in The Morning Show. She’s up against some seriously talented ladies, including Jodie Comer from Killing Eve, Elisabeth Moss from The Handmaid’s Tale, and Helena Bonham Carter and Olivia Colman from The Crown. It’s a tough field, but if there’s anyone who can pull off a win, it’s Jen. After all, she’s brought her A-game to this role, working alongside Reese Witherspoon to deliver a performance that’s been talked about all awards season.
Behind the Scenes of The Morning Show
So, how did this show come to life? Well, according to Brian Stelter, the creator of The Morning Show, it all started with his non-fiction book, Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV. In an interview with Closer Weekly, he explained how the series was inspired by real events but took on a life of its own. “The book is six years old now, so it serves as a foundation,” Brian said. “But the story we’re telling is completely original. It’s inspired by the #MeToo movement and what happened in the world of morning TV when Matt Lauer and Charlie Rose were fired from their jobs. The show had to reflect this new reality.”

And let’s not forget the drama behind the scenes. As Brian pointed out, morning TV has historically been a male-dominated world, with programs produced and run by male executives, targeting mostly female viewers. “That’s where the tension comes from,” he explained. “But things are changing. Now, we’ve got top female producers running the show, which adds a whole new layer of complexity to the narrative.”
