The Smart Comeback That Had Ian Ziering Laughing
Even at the ripe age of 8, Ian Ziering’s daughter Mia knows how to make a buck—or, in this case, avoid spending one. In an exclusive interview with Closer Weekly, the veteran actor shared a story about a time he tried (and failed) to trick his clever daughter into eating her vegetables.
“I once thought I’d get crafty and offer Mia a dollar to finish her broccoli,” Ian, now 55, explained to Closer Weekly at the AT&T TV Super Saturday Night event on February 1. “I leaned in and said, ‘Come on, Mia. I’ll give you a dollar if you eat your broccoli.’ She just looked at me like I was out of my mind. Then I added, ‘Mia, a dollar is a lot of money. Think about it.’”
Mia’s Quick Thinking Leaves Dad Speechless
But Mia wasn’t buying it—not even for a dollar. In fact, she turned the tables on her dad in a way that had everyone cracking up. “She shot back at me, ‘Dad, I’ll give you two dollars if you stop asking,’” Ian recounted, laughing at the memory. “She totally outsmarted me. What can I say? The kid’s got game.”

Family Life After a Decade-Long Marriage
Ian shares Mia and her younger sister, Penna, 6, with his ex-wife, Erin Kristine Ludwig. The couple tied the knot nine years ago, but their relationship came to an end in October 2019 when Erin filed for divorce. In the paperwork, she cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split.
“It’s never easy to talk about these things publicly, but it is with a heavy heart that I tell you Erin and I are splitting up,” Ian wrote on Instagram shortly after the news broke. “Our lives have been incredibly busy over the years, and somewhere along the way, we drifted apart. But let me be clear: Erin is one of the most incredible women I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing, and she’s been an amazing mom to our girls.”
“Unfortunately, there are always people who try to sensationalize situations like this,” Ian continued. “Anything you hear attributed to me that paints a negative picture is false. Erin and I are committed to working together as co-parents. We want nothing more than to protect and support our daughters during this transition. We kindly ask for your understanding and respect as we focus on what truly matters—our girls.”

It’s clear that Ian and Erin are putting their children first, and we couldn’t respect them more for it. And hey, props to Mia for proving she’s got her dad’s wit and charm—just with a little extra strategy.
